I did my first 'Legs' gym session for a long time on Tuesday, and I decided to try a run today, but the DOMS in my hamstrings were still so bad! I just managed 6k, but it was such a struggle! Definitely time to stretch and roll now๐ hope you're training went better than mine! ๐๐ผ
@keetz_x@UKRunChat@runnersworlduk@runnersworld That's great to hear! Glad you've managed to get over your injury!โบ๏ธ Yeah I try to do 3 sessions a week - I wasn't able to do quite so much during lockdown, and I've really noticed a difference, so I've been trying to get back in a routine with it.
@MoveTrainRegen@UKRunChat@runnersworlduk@runnersworld Very true! People often don't realise that strength training is much more varied and as you say, is not all lifting weights. For me strength training covers any supplementary exercise that improves how a muscle performs/functions either in general or in the chosen sport.
@Heada92@UKRunChat@runnersworlduk@runnersworld Injury resilience is becoming a common theme! I'm glad that injuries are becoming a less common occurrence for you since starting strength training! ๐ Keep it up!๐๐ผ
@Lady___HaHa @UKRunChat@runnersworlduk@runnersworld That is so good to hear it has helped keep you injury free! ๐ I feel like the mental health and well-being effects are often forgotten. Enjoyment is just as, if not more important than the actual training effects!
@iowrunner@UKRunChat@runnersworlduk@runnersworld I hear you! Sometimes strength training can feel mundane. There tends to be a bit more waiting around and it's not always as stimulating as a run, cycle or swim. There are loads of different ways to do it though, so it's worth having a look at different methods!
@gobi_one@UKRunChat@runnersworlduk@runnersworld They do become increasingly important with age for sure - I think we all need to start implementing mobility and flexibility training a bit sooner as well. I feel like a lot of people often neglect and put it off because it's not as stimulating as a run or resistance training.
@Marko_foo@UKRunChat@runnersworlduk@runnersworld Nice! Fair play! Yeah I think the main conclusion from scientific research is that it helps improve almost every running distance, but there are always contradictions and situations where it may not be as beneficial, as with any sort of training.
@Marko_foo@UKRunChat@runnersworlduk@runnersworld That's great to hear it's helping keep those injuries at bay! It's helped me in the same way - I always feel so much more resilient to injury when my strength training has been consistent ๐ are you training for a particular distance?
