Everyone should be free to live their life how they want but that’s not the reality for many disabled folk. I had to convince my social worker I needed to wash my hair once a wk. We have to fight to go to the loo, stay in our homes/leave our homes. We need #AssistanceToLive first
#DisabilityStudies#DisabilityTwitter Does anyone have any favorite readings from a dis studies perspective about Outsider (Art Brut)/Intuitive/Self-Taught artist movements? I'm especially looking for how intellectual disability appears in these mvmts and their curation. Thx!
As school begins in England, periodic reminder that schools which choose to reward 100% attendance without equally rewarding disabled children who cannot achieve this for disability related reasons may well be breaching the Equality Act and the Human Rights Act
Non-disabled folks/institutions do you want to know how disabled people talk about you when you’re not in the room? (Okay, you probably don’t but it’s educational…) Access Fuckery is like someone just recorded all those conversations we have lying on our living room floors
I am so deeply in love with @AccessFuckery
I’m currently listening to Thomas Reid’s episode (and he is always brilliant) but every episode is funny, filled with rage (at all the fuckery), and just amazing
A new #Access Manager role has been created @RoyalAlbertHall. A fantastic opportunity to develop accessible practice in a venue dating back to 1871! https://t.co/0jXSnqmRDH
Thinking about the fact that I have tickets to a dance club next weekend that should be sensory friendly/accessible. And how it’s quite likely that somehow Steve Silberman was part of creating the cultural conditions that makes that possible…
(I might be a little weepy)
As someone who commutes and has this happen to regularly, it’s time that companies were fined every time they don’t provide our basic access needs. I honestly don’t see any other way. @Tanni_GT
This is a really key role for us and we struggled to find the 'title' - do have a read through and see what you think - please share far and wide too. Must be someone who is in commutable distance from Wakefield.

There's still time to register for the @InclusionLondon and @TfL meeting on taxi and private hire vehicle accessibility and reliability in London next week

just in general I strongly feel that if you're claiming an identity or a struggle, you have a responsibility to, within your ability, be curious about and seek out information about what movement work is already happening and what histories preceded you
My piece in The Big Issue:
On the Freedom of the City, playing “access roulette” and recognizing its personal cost, & how we can pull the levers of policy to enforce disability access laws.

Hello #Access people! Does anyone know of any grants for disabled people who need a family/cargo e-bike to assist in getting a child to school? The catchment area system has not taken into account the journey for a disabled family. All advice welcome!
Yesterday I received one of the highest and most ancient honors in London, the Freedom of the City. But the celebration soured into an experience of indignity when upon arriving, I found that there was no ramp for me to access the stage.
