The decibel level of F 18 hornet at 50 feet doing a low pass is around 130 dB. The threshold of pain for human hearing is 110 dB. There were children clutching their heads and crying after this.
Just last year 67 people were killed after an Army helicopter accidentally flew into the path of a passenger jet. The reason rules exist is because a split second fuck up, a shortcut, or a missed communication could end up killing dozens.
We’ve gone from a helicopter at Kid Rock’s, to Apaches on the beach, to this legitimately dangerous flyover in Pensacola.
This is what it looks like when your “SecWar” is concerned with “low-T” instead of discipline.
This ultra low pass of a crowed beach was 1 ingested seabird away from becoming a mass casualty event. And the toxic culture that created and condones this, close to criminal type negligence, comes directly from the top.
The Blue Angels discourse is actually helpful for determining who to follow and who to block. Those that care deeply about aviation—truly love it—also care deeply about the rules, regulations, and procedures that minimize risk to pilots, spectators, and the environment.
