Kenya Airways (KQ) remains a strategic national asset that plays a critical role in facilitating trade, tourism, investment and regional connectivity.
Met the Kenya Airways team, led by Chairman Kiprono Kittony, at the National Treasury, where they updated me on the ongoing implementation of the national carrier’s turnaround strategy, recapitalisation programme and related proposals.
The Government is committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen the airline’s long-term financial sustainability, enhance its competitiveness as Africa’s leading airline and position it for sustainable growth.

Kenya Airways (KQ) and an American aviation supplier have challenged each other in parallel lawsuits in Kenya and the United States: Kenya Airways (KQ) has filed a suit against Aero Industrial Supply (AIS) in the High Court in Nairobi over a breach of a consignment contract regarding the disposal of surplus Boeing 777 fleet parts.
The national carrier accuses AIS of failing to account for, remit proceeds from, or return surplus inventory under a three-year consignment agreement covering Boeing 777-200 and 777-300 aircraft parts, tools, and equipment.
The airline is seeking approximately US$11.84 million (about KSh1.5 billion) or, alternatively, a full accounting of all aircraft parts and proceeds handled under the consignment arrangement.
Last month (on June 2, 2026), Aero Industrial Supply had filed a lawsuit in a New York court (in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York) against Kenya Airways, claiming the airline failed to pay over $1.1 million for aircraft spare parts supplied between 2014 and 2021.

The proposed new hub for KQ is Ghana as part of its turnaround strategy which is so poetic considering it was part of the ambitious Project Mawingu.

I struggle to understand the logic of an airline with unresolved structural problems, fragile finances and recurring operational instability trying to help launch another country’s national airline.
Surely the priority should first be building a stable, consistently profitable and reliable operation at home before exporting the model elsewhere.
European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has authorized Angola's TAAG (Linhas Aereas de Angola) to operate Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in Europe.
The authorization was granted as part of the regular certification and technical supervision process applicable to operators operating flights to destinations in the European Union.
The Luanda-Lisbon-Luanda route is TAAG's main connection to the European market, and the introduction of the Boeing 787-9 aims to "strengthen the passenger travel experience" and the company's competitiveness in this strategic connection with a fleet of four B787 Dreamliners.
In February 2025, TAAG Angola Airlines took the delivery of the first of four B787 Dreamliners from Boeing.

While everyone was distracted by the Finance Bill 2026 sailing through Parliament, an insider leak just revealed the JKIA expansion project could cost double the official price tag.
From Sh154 Billion to a staggering Sh310 Billion, who is pocketing the difference?

A series of aircraft accidents and serious incidents at Wilson Airport, including a mid-air collision over Nairobi National Park and hard landings, has put Kenya's busiest domestic aviation hub under renewed scrutiny. https://t.co/PyaFOZyeyk
According to the Trump administration officials , President Donald Trump’s recent trip to the G7 Summit in France, marked the final flight aboard the Boeing VC-25A (Serial 92-9000 / the current Air Force One aircraft), which has served presidents for over 35 years.
The aircraft (ex-registration N60659) entered into service on December 20th, 1990, and has flown the presidents since.
The next new Air Force One fleet will be a Boeing 747-8 from the Qatar Amiri Flight, now designated as Boeing VC-25B "Bridge", and it is expected to enter service for the first time next month.
