दुखी दिनों में आदमी कविता नहीं लिखता
दुखी दिनों में आदमी बहुत कुछ करता है
लतीफ़े सुनाने से ज़हर खाने तक
लेकिन वह कविता नहीं लिखता।

दुखी दिनों में आदमी
दिन की रौशनी में रोने के लिये अँधेरा ढूँढ़ता है
और चालीस की उम्र में भी
माँ की गोद जैसी
कोई सुरक्षित जगह खोजता है।

दुखी दिनों में आदमी बहुत कुछ सोचता है
मसलन झील के पानी की गहराई
और शहर की सबसे बड़ी इमारत की मंज़िलें
और साथ ही साथ
एक ख़ामोश भाषा में चीख़ता है
कि उसके सारे प्रियजन
झील पर एक मज़बूत बाँध बनकर खड़े हो जाएँ
और इमारत में चलती लिफ़्ट को रोक लें
लेकिन प्रियजन तो पेड़ होते हैं।
छाया देते हैं
हवा से दुलरा सकते हैं
बाँध नहीं बन सकते।

बाँध तो आदमी ख़ुद ही बनता है।

दुखी दिनों में आदमी
एक मज़बूत या कमज़ोर बाँध तो बनता है
लेकिन कविता नहीं लिखता।
