This is a new ploy that the police have adopted. Giving social media bans to people after they are arrested for speech.

It's to stop the person from garnering support and getting a lot of eyes on their case, because the less people watching the case means it will be easier for the state to hand down a much heavier sentence. But when there are so many eyes and supporters following the case, that becomes very difficult without huge blowback, and the state absolutely hates that so they started just banning people from talking publicly about their case or their arrest.

Also the public being constantly reminded of the governments extreme authoritarian practices and constant violations of basic human rights tends to make the public a bit angry, specifically now when everyone is so ready to riot over governments just forcing their will upon communities and disregarding native rights. The government is extremely nervous about the current turmoil and so wants to restrict the flow of information to prevent further turmoil.

It's actually a great display of what the ultimate end goal is of all free speech laws is, it's the government saying "stop telling on us because it makes us look bad and prevents us from forcing our will upon the public".
