Opening Day Benediction
Beneath a sky of impossible blue,
the diamond wakes in emerald fire.
Hot dogs steam like incense offered
to the gods of second chances.
Father and son, shoulders brushing,
step once more into the old cathedral
where every scar of winter is forgiven
and the first pitch sings like absolution.
The crowd becomes one breathing creature,
hope swelling in ten thousand throats.
Bats crack — sharp as new beginnings —
and for one bright hour, we are young again,
eternally, impossibly young.
@MarkCHealey Bill Parcels said he knew that on 4th and less than 1 the stats said to go for it, he added that the stats don’t take in to account that Reggie White might be on the other side of the ball.
