“I just need to get more organized.”
Everyone has said this after too much caffeine on a Monday morning, overwhelmed at the thought of the upcoming week.
Then they usually waste the next 4 hours:
- Researching the newest productivity tool.
- Setting everything up to handle every little task, perfectly color coded of course.
- Inputting all the random information they have spread across email, texts, slack, teams, paper.
They try to stick to this new system, which usually fails after 2-3 days.
The problem isn’t the tool, it’s the lack of system.
You always end up feeling disorganized because there’s no clear outline in your head of how you receive, store, schedule, and execute tasks.
Productivity tools are great, but only if you have a clear “why” behind them.
Next time you step back to think about how you funnel in new information, think CODE.
Capture - store new tasks in one place, trello, notes, a dedicated inbox.
Organize - categorize similar tasks to be done together.
Delegate - offload them to teammates if possible, if it’s on you then time block them on your calendar.
Execute - stick to the plan and don’t context switch. Pick a task, get it done, move on.
PS - if you are a software/tool nerd. @trello is my go to.
@therealsupes I just reread the series for the 2nd time. It only gets better when you take the time to go back through it. The ending of morning star and the gala scene from golden sun are still two of my favorites.
@tferriss@tferriss I just tried this after reading about it in your weekly round up. In 8 minutes I’m relaxed and have just done my first meditation session without even realizing it. So worth it.
