@AllyW1109 This class has definitely been a lesson in being concise, and I've seen those skills being reflected in my other classes with essays. I've tried to be very intentionally about what I write, as well as keeping an eye on having a professional tone.
In finishing our grant project today, I realized how proud I was of the project we created. If we had more time in this class, I would have loved to bring it to life. My group and I became very invested in our topic, and passionate about what it could potentially do. #cnuengl350
Today in class it was interesting to see how we were all able to answer what DH was. In comparison to the beginning of the year, you can see how much we have learned and how much easier it is to narrow down what this niche interdisciplinary media form is. #cnuengl350
Creating this grant in sections is incredibly beneficial, as it allows for my group to have a plethora of peer reviews to work with. As we are nearing the end of the project, it is getting exciting to see our full grant proposal come together #cnuengl350
@Brenanabread99 It’s little things like that that you don’t realize make a difference until someone points it out to you. Writing this grant and updating our resumes are skills that go beyond the classroom in my opinion.
Reorganizing and updating my resume is something I’ve been meaning to do for a while, so it is helpful that we are being provided with tips and examples of how to do that. It’s not something I expected from this class, but I’m grateful we are doing it #cnuengl350
My group and I were able to get some super valuable help with our Grant Narrative/budget peer review. We luckily had two reviewers looking at it, so we have multiple opinions to consider when rewriting. #cnuengl350
@AllyW1109 Being well-informed on the topic before we start the grant narrative was very helpful, and we have a lot more passion for our topic the more we learn about it
My group (@AllyW1109@a_colon99 ) got a lot done on our grant narrative, and we learned a lot about how much work goes into submitting a proposal. We had to be critical when thinking about what we wanted to spend our money on, as well as convincing in why our project is important
@AllyW1109 and I found the peer review to be really helpful. We were really impressed with Thomas and Brady's work and took notes on how to improve our own ES before we turn it in. It's a huge help that we have peer review on the upcoming sections of the project too. #cnuengl350
@kat_campbell99 Our group had a similar problems! We were unable to find a lot of similar DH projects, so the majority of our environmental scan is going to be research gathered from outside scholarly articles
While researching our topic, I feel really fortunate that my group and I actually had some difficulty finding similar projects. It helps grow our passion for the project knowing that we are doing something that is unique to the field, even if it may not actually get created.
My group’s appointment with @dr_stover went really well this morning! Going in to it, we had a clear idea of what we wanted our project to look like, but she further explained the importance of an environmental scan and we have a clearer picture of what to bring for peer review.
@Brenanabread99 This was my big takeaway as well. Since this is the first time most of us have had a write a grant, it’s going to be tricky figuring out what makes our projects unique to the subject area. Definitely good that we are learning what to avoid now #cnuengl350
I read over @a_colon99’s review and I really enjoyed being able to compare the finished project to what I saw in peer review. She had her ideas fully fleshed out, and I think she did a better job of explaining the website even though I had already seen it. The project was
What I found important from “Why Academics Have a Hard Time Writing Good Grant Proposals” was at the end when it stressed the importance of reading successful proposals as guidance for writing your own. What better way to write a persuasive proposal than from example. #cnuengl350
Peer review is always helpful, but today I really appreciated having a second set of eyes on my project. After looking at my peer review sheet I was able to find things about my DH project that I hadn’t noticed before but are definitely big issues. #cnuengl350
@_ThomasM8 I agree that writing this time around is a lot easier, and so is working with GitHub. I’m definitely a lot more comfortable with what language we are supposed to use and how to make my blog posts look nice to an outsider.
My second DH review is on the Haitian constitution and other founding documents, and it’s really interesting, but it hasn’t been updated since 2016. It’s hard to imagine someone going through all the hard work of creating a project and then just leaving it #cnuengl350
