I was received today by Mayor of Yangzhou, Mr. Zheng Haitao. He also hosted me and my delegation to a delicious lunch. Our conversations were centered around 🇵🇰🇨🇳 friendship, enhanced economic, cultural and people-to-people cooperation and exchanges.
Mr. Zheng responded positively to my suggestions for deepening further collaboration & exchanges: including facilitation in setting up a Pakistani restaurant in Yangzhou city; periodic roundtables to engage Yangzhou based enterprises in new materials, new energy, chemicals & petrochemicals, and next-gen IT, followed by visits to Pakistan.
We also exchanged views on tapping into technical training opportunities and expanding cooperation in agricultural field. The Embassy and Pakistan Consulate in Shanghai will follow up on these productive discussions. 🇵🇰🤝🇨🇳

Interacted with our Consuls General in Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hong Kong & Shanghai at the concluding session of the first quarterly review meeting of the Annual Action Plan. We spoke about sustaining the momentum of coordinated work and its impact. We also discussed milestones for next quarter and preparations for a B2B Investment Forum on ICT next month in Hangzhou. Earlier, the Embassy team interacted with Consuls General and their teams to review implementation of the Annual Action Plan and catalyze synergy & coordination for productive outcomes.

The year 2026 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. At this important historical juncture, Pakistan's Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi spoke with China News Network, on topics of deepening traditional friendship and expanding practical cooperation between the two countries.

Noting that the bilateral friendship is highly cherished, Hashmi said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, considerable progress have been made between the two sides. The development of bilateral relations has evolved from intergovernmental cooperation to a comprehensive engagement framework encompassing business exchanges and people-to-people connectivity.

Last night I received a call from the owner of the girls school that was bombed and destroyed in North Waziristan. He was emotional so I asked him to share what he felt in his own words. This is his story, unedited:

“Story of Afia Islamic Girls Public School:

Girls' education in North Waziristan is at a very low level because there were no institutions for girls' education in North Waziristan. 90 per cent of government schools for girls are non-functional in North Waziristan. In North Waziristan, the private sector plays an important role in promoting boys' education, but there was no private girls' school present in the area. In 2020, I and some of my friends discussed different possibilities for the promotion of girls' education in Tehsil Shewa, North Waziristan. For this purpose, we arranged meetings with the elders of our area, and all the people agreed that we would allow our girls to receive education. However, the main hurdle was the unavailability of a girls' school. For the construction of a private school for girls in Tehsil Shewa, we contacted different people, but no one was ready to build a school for girls because they said that the Taliban would destroy it since they are against female education, and we are not ready to invest in girls' education in our area. After that, we contacted one of my cousin's friends who was working as a laborer in the UAE. At that time, we advised him that he had 10 lac rupees, and he should invest this money in the construction of a girls' school in Tehsil Shewa, North Waziristan, as it would help promote girls' education in the area. He readily agreed with our advice and was ready to invest money in the girls' school. After that, the construction of the school started, but it took a long time due to insufficient funds. However, after 3 years, the school was completed and inaugurated on May 19, 2023. After that, the people of our area admitted their girls to Afia School for education. In less than one year, 100 girls got admission to Afia School, and with every passing day, the strength of the school increased. Unfortunately, on May 9, 2024, at midnight 1 PM, some unknown persons destroyed the school with a bomb, and they also destroyed and broke the chairs and whiteboards of Afia Girls' School In this way, they stopped our girls from education, but we will continue our struggle for the promotion of girls' education until death.
