Promoting mental health is key to unlocking peak performance - a principle I advocate in my work.
Let’s keep driving the conversation on the importance of mental resilience in sports

Sport psychology isn't a discipline reserved for problems. It's designed to help participants flourish...and to help players thrive.
Sport psychology is for those who are excited about working towards being the very best they can be...whatever that looks like to them
Just had my first paper published as lead author during my PhD, which is a very nice feeling.
My PhD is in Sport Psychology, exploring the role of virtual reality training in elite sport, mainly in the Premier League.
Just thought I’d share the achievement with you all 💪🏼❤️
Why didn't Conte leaving make a difference? Why do players still seem unmotivated? Where does Levy go from here?
Tottenham have a culture problem - and it's going to take time to fix

50 years of developmental psychology research suggests that an authoritative parenting style is associated with many positive outcomes.
It predicts higher levels of achievement at school, moral development and overall competence.
It’s an approach coaches can take in their coaching practice…
So what is an authoritative style?
👇🏻
It's a balance and blend of warm affection with the articulation of clear rules for competent behaviour.
Does this sound like anything you recognise sports coaches?
And what are some (arguably) maladaptive parental styles?
👇🏻
Authoritarian...where parenting is strict but not warm.
Indulgent...where parenting is warm but not strict.
And neglectful...where parenting is neither warm nor strict.
Does this sound like anything you recognise sports coaches?
👇🏻
Of course this research is very Westernised...authoritative parenting resonates with Western values of autonomy and individual achievement.
But these findings run in parallel with what is probably, in very simple terms, the very best way to coach sport.
-to give behavioural guidelines
-rules and boundaries
-to give young players a great environment to build knowledge of your sport
-to give young players the chance to be involved in the process of improvement in some manner
-to give young players a warm, safe, and healthy environment in which to experience your sport
Maybe…perhaps…aim to be an authoritative coach…
So, to help a striker build confidence:
1. Tap into memory of best games
2. Create action-based words
3. Create activities that build from low functional difficulty to high and moderate specificity to high
4. Guide and encourage through your voice (using the action-based words)
When therapists help potentially suicidal clients create a "safety plan" for steps to take in a crisis, research shows, the clients become far less likely to make an attempt. Here's why. https://t.co/8YwWTYT17P
