Habibi, Ramathan Ggoobi is the latest proof that Museveni’s regime doesn't suffer from a lack of people smart people who know what must be done, but it’s simply a system built to create the illusion that it’s doing what it takes and yet works actively to curtail that.

You can't say Mr Ggoobi doesn't know how to fix an economy. He knows that for sure! But, Michael Phelps's Olympic medals are no guarantee that he would be the best swimmer in Nakivubi channel if he went against one of the ghetto youths who swim there to evade arrests from police. In Nakivubo, Phelps would have to swim in dirty water, fight with polythene bags while at it, and not know where to start and end. That's Mr Ggoobi. A fast swimmer in the wrong pool.

How do we explain the fact that Mr Ggoobi who made a name for himself by speaking up against wasteful expenditure in government, ended up as the guy in charge and allocated 160,000,000,000/= for donations in country where GDP per capita is USD 964?! That while the same government allocated a paltry 26.35 billion to local government primary healthcare, it allocated 114,275,000,000/= for officials to travel abroad?! That while his govt allocated 207 billion for manufacturing, it spared and allocated close to 600,000,000,000/= as “classified expenditure”?

This is my point of departure with the “opposition must work with government” argument that is favourite for opposition leaders who cross over to the NRM and those in the lounge, about to cross over but don't have the guts to say it blatantly that they decided to go where survival seemed easier.

As things stand, it’s hard to see what value Ramathan Ggoobi, for all his knowledge has added to our treasury. In fact, things are actually getting worse! The govt that spoke of fragility went ahead to cut expenditures for education, health, and other essential services to find some money for cars, clothes, and donations of top officials.

What was promised - Economics that Works - has fast turned into Economics that Whacks! And boy, oh boy, Ugandans are being whacked! 🙌🏾
