@JLiang62455@abhornUCRedu I completely agree that student athletes' academics should be more prioritized, especially African American students as they are not offered the same resources and opportunities and should be seen for more than their athleticism! #UCR150@annaaacha
Many universities rely on African-American and Pacific Islander students to generate revenue in their intercollegiate athletics programs, but fail to return the favor by offering resources for academic success. #UCR150@annaaacha
@derek_lpz@abhornUCRedu I completely agree, if anything the NCAA adds onto their stress with all the restrictions they impede on their student athletes! #UCR150@annaaacha
The NCAA can't keep using amateurism as a defense to justify exploiting and treating their student athletes unfairly. At one point they need to take responsibility! #UCR150@annaaacha
@Samiya370850@abhornUCRedu Hi Samiya! I totally agree that this is just one more thing that gives institutions too much power over their student athletes! #UCR150@annaaacha
If freshman students are fully capable of competing immediately while adjusting to university life, what makes the NCAA believe that transfer students are unable to do so? #UCR150@annaaacha
@tamez180321@annaaacha Hi Amy, I agree that it's insane the amount of money the NCAA has access to, but they choose not to use their expenses to ensure the safety of athletes that contribute to their profits! @annaaacha#UCR150
It is so unfair for institutions to be putting their athletes through so much mental and physical turmoil. The least they could do is protect their health and wellbeing by taking concussions seriously! @annaaacha#UCR150
College athletics budgets have been strained long before the establishment of Title IX in 1972, so placing the blame of athletic budget cuts on a law that is intended to provide gender equality, is just misogyny at work! #UCR150@annaaacha
@lisscastrom@annaaacha Hi Lissette! I totally agree that having a one-year renewable scholarship provides an imbalanced power dynamic and makes it seem like these student athletes are disposable. #ucr150@annaaacha
@Nareenclute@annaaacha I agree! We need to reassess how much we value these athletes, and whether or not they are receiving appropriate compensation for the work they put in. #ucr150@annaaacha
Collegiate athletes deserve to receive a four-year education after all the hard work they have contributed to their institutions. The dynamic between colleges/coaches and their athletes should be mutually beneficial! #UCR150@annaaacha
Why is the NCAA allowed to monopolize on their students' athletic abilities, but the individual athletes who put in the work are not allowed to reap the benefits themselves? Were their intentions in installing amateurism to capitalize off their athletes?
@annaacha#ucr150
@reehirmiz Institutions even let other scholarship students receive extra compensation (e.g. music students with organized concerts), do you think that this should be allowed for athletes too? @annaacha#ucr150
@cjime074 I also think this is so contradicting! Seeing as they help to bring attention and revenue to the schools they represent, they should be receiving positive reinforcements! @annnaacha #ucr150
For conditions to improve for collegiate athletes, it's clear that a social movement needs to embark through radical flank effects, which I learned today are interactive processes that produce an understanding of a problem and a radical change to resolve it! @annnaacha #UCR150
