Calling it D&C makes it sound like it’s the only way to get an abortion. 93% of all abortions occur during 1st trimester, and over 53% of those use medication. 6% occur during 2nd trimester, when D&C is used, and only 1% occur in 3rd.

It’s for any removal of tissue from the uterus, such as to diagnose uterine illness or remove tissue after miscarriage. D&C is used only for 2nd trimester abortions. 1st trimester they use medication or simpler procedure, and 3rd you have to induce.
