BREAKING: Joaquin Buenaflor of Laban Kabataan coalition and Chloe Antonio of UP ALYANSA will lead the University Student Council (USC) as chairperson and vice chairperson, respectively.

All eight councilor bets won, topped by Amanda Echanis, the first political prisoner to hold a post in the council. Seven are from the Laban Kabataan coalition, while the other one is from UP Alyansa.

BREAKING: The abstain vote was not honored for the first time in recent history after Chloe Antonio of UP Alyansa was declared as the vice chairperson of the University Student Council despite being outvoted by abstentions.

Breaking precedent, the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Jose Carlo de Pano told the Collegian that the reason for this is because the combined votes (6,140) of Antonio and contender Darlene Cerico were more than abstain (4,151).

LOOK: The chairperson, vice chairperson, and eight out of 12 councilor seats will be filled after the results of this year’s regular University Student Council (USC) elections.

Incumbent USC councilor and Laban Kabataan bet Joaquin Buenaflor won as chairperson. On the other hand, former councilor and UP ALYANSA bet Chloe Antonio was declared as vice chairperson despite being outvoted by abstain.

The reinterpretation of abstain came with neither prior announcement nor consultation.

For the councilor posts, all candidates won. Seven are from Laban Kabataan, while the remaining one is from UP ALYANSA.
