Mark from Vanity Fair saying tech bros of today aren’t interested in social climbing is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard. The state of the world and entertainment right now is cause a bunch of nerds want to be the popular kids finally. They are the epitome of social climbing.
Let’s be very clear: there is value in automating tedious and repetitive and dangerous tasks; there is value in delegating certain work to our machines that can do the work tirelessly and much faster.
But at the same time, let us remember that there is value in the activity of engaging one’s mind and body to discover, to understand, to create, and yes, even to struggle and overcome. Indeed, these are some of the things that make us human, that contribute to giving us meaning, that are part of the simple joy of experiencing being alive.
Software developers make easy scapegoats because people don't know or understand what we do. The move, in some circles, to eliminate developers entirely stems directly from that ignorance. They don't understand what we do, so they imagine it's easy (and easily replaced by AI). Wrong on both counts. It's not about the coding. We, of course, make matters worse by not going out of our way to be more visible and accessible.
You don't have to commit your entire life to optimism, just try it on for a week. Start thinking "what if it all worked out?" and "what a time to be alive!". Then compare your state of mind to the week before filled with pessimism and doomer nonsense.
In a meeting with Rwandan Ambassador @AmbMukantabana, Assistant Secretary Garcia stressed that Rwanda must uphold its obligations under the Washington Accords, including ending all support to M23 and withdrawing its forces from the DRC. Full implementation is the foundation for lasting peace in the Great Lakes region and will open the door to new investment and deeper economic ties that bring mutual prosperity.
🇷🇼 🇪🇺 Under @PaulKagame’s rule, Rwanda is struggling to address serious problems affecting its own population: high inflation, recurring water and electricity shortages, the milk shortage, serious human rights violations and the silencing of dissent, as well as major public investments for which citizens continue to demand greater transparency.
Yet the government apparently finds the time and energy to explore hosting facilities for migrants transferred from Europe.
Why is that same urgency not being demonstrated in addressing the basic problems Rwandans are facing at home? What are the government’s priorities?
Despite Rwanda repeatedly having signed peace agreements for eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, its forces and its proxy M23 rebel troops killed more than 300 people in June and July in areas of eastern Congo that they held. https://t.co/62hpNpmnEU
DR Congo was Africa’s largest importer of major military drones between 2022 and 2025, followed by Sudan and Mali.
Ukraine and Russia accounted for more than 91% of all recorded military drone imports during the period.
Nigeria, Kenya, Algeria, Burkina Faso and Morocco also featured among Africa’s military drone importers.
The figures cover major military systems and exclude most smaller FPV and commercial drones.
