❄️🎄 On the First Day of Continuing Education, NKF gave to me…
a new episode exploring uromodulin. Dr. Gaddy. LaFavers, and Garimella explore uromodulin's role in infection defense, AKI, and kidney stress.

Our new editorial is out examining the evidence for a causal relationship between urinary uromodulin levels amd urinary tract infection risk as described in Liyanarachi et al.'s new paper in AJKD!

Hiring now for a technician!
If you know of any recent college grads with degrees in science who are looking for a position, please pass this on to them. No work experience required. My lab studies communication between the kidney and immune system in sepsis. Link in comments.
🔥Just appeared in @CJASN with kudos to @klafavers @AnnaGaddy and @uofcneph collaborators.

This work has physiological implications for uromodulin biology, stone disease, biomarker use and mechanisms of kidney injury.
I will explain:
@DrTaraB20 @AcademicChatter Many conferences I went to in grad school supplied lodging and it was two to a room, two beds in the room. In my postdoc lab we often voluntarily double up because it’s fun and feels safer, but it’s always our choice.
@AllstatePP Have a three year warranty on a #kindlefire and tried to make a claim with the number that shows up. @amazon can’t help and there’s no way to submit a claim or contact anyone on your website.
@gbosslet This happened last year with the Feb storm. My son’s initial peds pulm consult with pft was canceled at Riley before the bad weather even hit. Hopefully you get some notice if they do cancel 😆
@gbosslet On the research side of things, IUSM post docs 5y ago did not have any policy. However, IUSM PhD students have had one since 2009. 6w paid, up to 6w unpaid as of 8y ago.
@mcstarr1@womeninnephro I remember meeting you at the San Diego Kidney Week in the pumping room and we had the same issues then. Disappointed that this is still happening 😞
@MicahPollak RSV is at the bottom of my preferred list. No available vaccine. Potentially catastrophic impact on helpless infants. Covid is at the top of my list. Good vaccines, lots of infection-acquired immunity, readily available rapid tests.
Those are some cute kids! Abby’s the one in the first pic wearing combat boots and Isaac is in the grey pullover in the third pic 🤣. They had a blast - came home and knew exactly to do with all the projects they made! Thanks @Waynetwp4H!
We had a great group for our Encanto inspired workshop. They made water cycle on a bag to control the weather like Pepa, learned to read dog body language to understand animals like Antonio, used a lever to lift a weight like Luisa and so much more #4H#wearewayne#FindYourSpark
@MicahPollak@gbosslet So jealous. Our hill ends in a pond/lake as well but it’s not consistently cold enough in Indy to be safe to ever be safe to walk on 😔
💥💥After many years trying, we finally succeeded in proteomic characterization of serum #Uromodulin : it retains EHP domain (explains why doesn’t aggregate) & has different processing path compared to urinary polymerizing UMOD.

@MicahPollak Not all the availability is showing up online. I called 211 and booked appointments for next week at IMS that weren’t showing at all online.
just finished nights on call, and found that a toxic triad of RSV, rhinovirus and SARS-CoV-2 is starting to stretch the Scottish hospital I work in to its limits
it's only August
what went wrong? 🧵1/n
I cleared my schedule to watch ACIP discuss the J&J vaccine.
I'll try to live tweet important portions for those who didn't take the day off.
