I've been trading breakouts professionally for over 20 years.
Launched a hedge fund with them. Built over 2,500 strategies.
The question I still get most often: "Why breakouts? Why not mean reversion or trend following?"
Here's why.
Breakouts are simple to define. Price compresses, then expands. You enter when it expands. One sentence.
Mean reversion requires you to identify overextension, calculate fair value, and time the reversal, all of which involves subjective judgment. Trend following requires you to identify a trend, which sounds simple until you realize every timeframe shows a different one.
Breakouts have one clear trigger. Price breaks a level. It happened or it didn't. No ambiguity.
Breakouts work on every market I've tested. US indexes, European bonds, Asian markets, energies, metals, grains, currencies, stocks. The same formula, adapted for each market's characteristics, works everywhere. Because every market has moments of compression followed by expansion.
That's just how prices move.
Breakouts are easy to automate. The trigger is objective: price hits level X. That translates directly into code. No discretionary judgment. You can test, validate, and deploy without staring at screens all day.
Breakout strategies tend to be robust over time. The underlying behavior, compression then expansion, is a fundamental property of how markets move. It doesn't depend on a temporary regime.
False breakouts are real. Whipsaws happen. But those are filterable problems, and there are proven techniques to reduce them dramatically without overfitting.
One definition. Every market. Two decades of equity curves pointing the same direction.
Head of Engineering at Shopify, Farhan Thawar:
"While you're still perfecting your prompts, the best engineers stopped writing them months ago. Learn to write loops instead."
44 minutes on the new AI formula that's changing how the best engineers build.
Watch it, then save the step-by-step guide below 👇
HE AUTOMATED HIS ENTIRE AI RESEARCH WORKFLOW IN 60 SECONDS AND IT RUNS EVERY 15 MINUTES WHILE HE SLEEPS
one prompt to hermes, one cron job, no zapier, no n8n, no python scripts
every 15 minutes it scans the web, checks github, hits arxiv and drops a structured digest with headlines, papers, open source releases and industry moves straight to telegram
this is what neil breaks down in the piece below, not a chatbot you babysit but an agent that runs on a schedule, remembers everything across sessions and hands you synthesized intelligence before you open your laptop

Warren Buffett:
"With a million dollars you could earn 50% a year."
Not with leverage. Not with some secret strategy.
Just one boring habit almost nobody has the patience for.
In this clip, Buffett explains the method that beats most of Wall Street
And why almost no one will actually do it.
Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia:
"Every engineer is going to have and manage hundreds of agents."
The most valuable engineering skill of 2026 is not taught in any university.
No CS program teaches harness engineering.
No bootcamp teaches agent memory architecture.
No degree prepares you to build systems that survive production.
One builder mapped the entire thing out — free, step by step, no degree required.
This is the roadmap ↓

IMO photonics theme + CW laser chokepoint is goated.
It's legit like markets have short term memory loss and forgot how $LITE went from $3B -> $65B+ from 2024 to now.
Because $NVDA caused EML bottlenecks, and forced architectural changes.
We're literally seeing the same thing today with CW lasers + 1.6T/CPO shifts with Nvidia signing LTAs everywhere.
Now, $AMD + other CSPs are hunting for remaining scraps with large LTAs for CW lasers + optical components.
GS Research's ~9-10x $154B optical TAM in 2028 and near $0 -> $91B CPO TAM in just 2 1/2 years.
Don't just magically disappear from a month of trading volatility.
$AAOI sitting at ~$13B, $SIVE sitting at ~$3B, and other CW laser players look strategically very valuable.
And next year I think we'll look back and say "Why didn't I learn my lesson the first time with EML from Nvidia and pick up CW laser adjacent names!"
Then there's likely gonna be some new mini trend 1-2 years from now like microled or quantum dot and we're gonna see the same thing repeat.
Think Sumitomo's projections with CW laser share + silicon photonics being majority / dominant architecture should be correct.
I'm personally just focusing on that bottleneck as you've seen with $SOI, $TSEM, $SIVE, and others.
this is f*cking dangerous

Andrej Karpathy, a co-founder of OpenAI, posted a simple idea that hit 16 million views: stop using AI to write code, use it to build a second brain.
You point Claude Code at a folder, drop in any source, an article, a transcript, a PDF, and Claude reads it, links it, and files it into a living wiki of everything you know. It compounds like interest, the more you feed it, the smarter it gets.
Here's the whole thing:
> Install Obsidian, create a vault, open it in Claude Code
> Paste Karpathy's wiki idea file and tell Claude to build it
> Claude makes three folders: raw for sources, wiki for its pages, a CLAUDE.md that runs it
> Drop any source into raw and say "ingest this"
> Ask questions across everything, forever
Five minutes to set up, and you never start from a blank chat again.
