@terrykiiim @psyc220 #CD7 I completely agree with this. Politics is very divisive and it's not healthy for parents to enforce their political views on their kids. Doing this can create closed-minded kids, and as kids grow up, the more they feel like their way of thinking is the correct way.
@GraceRomano20 @psyc220 #CD7 I completely agree with this. Parents need to be more careful when raising kids because it's very easy for kids to mimic their parents' biases, despite being aware of the consequences.
@psyc220 #CD7 The majority of kids imitate the behavior and attitudes of their parents while being unaware of the consequences. There are a lot of parents out there that enforce their biases and judgements onto their kids, which results in these kids behaving in inappropriate
#CD7 also lead to discrimination against other religious groups, as well as minorities. I would teach my kids the importance of being as unbiased as possible and treat others nicely. I would also encourage my kids to join organizations that spread awareness for marginalized
#CD6 @psyc220 According to the video, self-harm was once believed to effect only teenage girls, but studies show that this is not true. Gender often intersects with disabilities, and in this context, invisible disabilities, which include depression. Depression often
@zigsolosakss @psyc220 #CD6 This is a good example of intersectionality because there are multiple identities that are preventing this person to be apart of society. It's sad how she's not accepted by the community she identifies with, both because she is a transwoman and a person of color.
@milanohrjmu @psyc220 #CD6 This is a good point. I find it ironic that the US encourages immigrants to find jobs but makes the job process harder for them compared to those born in the US.
#CD6 @psyc220 leads to suicide, and women are more likely than men to receive professional help. However, although women on average attempt suicide at a higher rate than men, men are more likely to succeed in their attempt. This demonstrates how society has failed to treat men
@DaphnePfoser @cd5b @psyc220 #CD5b I agree with this. I feel like people who make inspiration porn are using peoples' disabilities to make people who don't have a disability feel better about themselves.
@goldstone_29 @psyc220 #CD5b I completely agree with this. I also grew up looking at these kinds of pictures, but I never imagined them to be disrespectful to those with disabilities. My view on this has definitely changed.
#CD5b @psyc220 disrespectful because people can use this person's disability as inspiration, but ultimately this person is doing what any other person would do when they lift weights.
#CD5b @psyc220
The image below is an example of inspiration porn because it shows someone with only half of their arms weightlifting. This image is implying that since this person can lift weights, anyone else should be able to lift weights as well. It's ironically...
@jesszoggpsych @psyc220 #CD5a I definitely relate with this. One of my professors requires us to have a doctor's note whenever we are sick or else it's an unexcused absence. This could also be a burden to individuals with mental health problems, as you mentioned.
@velasqea @psyc220 #CD5a I definitely agree. JMU has a nice campus but getting from one place to another can be challenging for individuals with disabilities.
#CD5a @psyc220 ordering food harder for blind people. I also find it insensitive that the Ashby Testing Center only has stairs and no elevator to get to the computers, which forces individuals in wheelchairs to go somewhere else to take tests.
#CD5a @psyc220 There are many ways JMU creates barriers for people with disabilities. For example, on east campus, there are many flights of stairs people have to take to get to the Engineering Geosciences building. This creates a disadvantage for those in wheelchairs...
#CD5a @psyc220 There are many steep hills on campus, such as the one near Madison Union, which makes it harder for people in a wheelchair to go up because they might not be strong enough. Also, since some dining areas at JMU have transitioned to Kiosk ordering, it makes...
