Weird funny little monologue I wrote a couple of decades ago was beautifully produced for the HPT Audio Plays podcast by @hydeparktheatre and flawlessly, delightfully performed by @valoneecia tolbert. I am so happy. https://t.co/UGywfRXfB1
@freganmitts maybe Pinter? The Homecoming is my favorite but most of them are marvelous and pretty hilarious/terrifying once you get on his wavelength. For more contemporary plays Annie Baker (I kinda prefer Circle Mirror etc or John to The Flick) or Lucas Hnath
I'ma put it to you like this-- if, in response to a question I've asked in my capacity as a professional news journalist--the president of these United States looks me dead in my eyes and says, "Quiet, Piggy"--- we're gonna have a motherfucking situation.
@sircalebhammer there is outstanding theater and dance here but most of it takes place in funkier spots, so if you're sticking to the Long Center and Zach you are missing out (Zach does have a great kids' theater program though
yes! except Dutch angle's not a pejorative -- and I just recently learned it comes from a misunderstanding of "Deutsch"--those angles were associated with German expressionist cinema
@WeirdMedieval "Dutch treat" to mean "I'm not treating you, we're splitting the bill." Some Dutch guys I met told me darkly that Belgians make a lot of jokes about the Dutch being cheap, perhaps it came from them (or perhaps all Europeans think the Dutch are tightwads, I dunno)
@y_elnahas@rim_raff@BumbleBiiTuna@Professor_0407 I had no idea there were people who thought that what a history major does is "learn history," no critical thinking involved. Completely new understanding for me, wow.
@dr00bert@zachdcarter@emptywheel am fascinated that his to me chaotic apparent beliefs— “catch this, fascist” and “bella ciao" don’t go with “yr gay lmao,” plus he had bella ciao on a spotify list called Groyper War?? —would be perfectly legible to another resident of ScrewedUpYoungManistan, they would “get” him
@dr00bert@zachdcarter@emptywheel to your last note, sure, it's just an easy shorthand for how L/R tends to work in the US (it works differently elsewhere). To your first one, the some of that is likely the gun culture element the OP mentions. guns are not pure rw, obv, but far more common in R culture. I (cont)
