@WeirdMedieval "Dutch treat" to mean "I'm not treating you, we're splitting the bill." Some Dutch guys I met told me darkly that Belgians make a lot of jokes about the Dutch being cheap, perhaps it came from them (or perhaps all Europeans think the Dutch are tightwads, I dunno)

@dr00bert @zachdcarter @emptywheel to your last note, sure, it's just an easy shorthand for how L/R tends to work in the US (it works differently elsewhere). To your first one, the some of that is likely the gun culture element the OP mentions. guns are not pure rw, obv, but far more common in R culture. I (cont)
