@HerbertHistory @biophiliamanda @AlongsideWild Ooh beautiful, definitely unique looking to most of the torts I see in your area. I know I don't have to tell you to submit them to the GT app 😉
@AlongsideWild @AdiVerb @biophiliamanda @RidgeRangers Please check out the Gopher Tortoise Council (https://t.co/fcEoqmGeJI). This organization is dedicated to the conservation of tortoises, their habitat, & the wildlife that depends on them. Supporting GTC means helping fund student research that in turn helpd protect tortoises!
@AlongsideWild @AdiVerb @biophiliamanda @RidgeRangers You can help collect data on gopher tortoises by using the Florida Gopher Tortoise app (https://t.co/cJI1iZ6slR) to report where you're seeing tortoises. If you'd like to find rescues/rehabbers in your area that are trained in 🐢 care, you can give your regional FWC office a call
“If all of humanity’s archives were to disappear, they could still reconstruct a pretty decent record of whaling intensity by measuring the stress hormones in the earwax of a few dozen whales.” https://t.co/xVefkhI8vJ
Somebody in the office threw away my lunch and the tupperware it was in leaving me to return 20 voicemails on an empty stomach and I DO NOT FUNCTION WELL WHEN IM HUNGRY
@FredHuston Yep that's right for the most part. I'm trying to focus on shapes more which I find helps a lot, and then we've got some year-rounders like whistling ducks which are hard to confuse for anything else
Starting to see ducks arriving for the winter! One of my favorite things about living in Lakeland is (go figure) all the lakes, which means lots of waterfowl. I have to re-learn how to ID most ducks every year, but northern shovelers are hard to forget with that massive bill!
Some good 🐥 from the last couple of weeks
Black-necked stilt, common yellowthroat, yellow-bellied sapsucker, and a distant snail kite
My favorite time of year for birding in FL!
