A recurring theme I saw when researching songbirds, was that they are often overlooked in conversations relating to climate change. Despite their intelligence being on par if not better in some ways than some mammals, their skills are sadly undermined by many.

One of the main takeaways I got from researching songbirds and birds in general, is that they are very intelligent creatures with keen spatial cognition abilities that they use for food catching, storing food, and migration.

Something else I learned in this class that is going to stick with me, is how sensitive they are to temperature change. I learned that with just a 1.5 degree increase in climate, some species of songbirds could be wiped out of an area.

In WR60, I got better at writing in different modes. More specifically, I learned how to cater to a science communication audience by explaining concepts in the appropriate complexity level as well as making the overall writing engaging to read.

One thing I learned about my animal (songbirds) that will stick with me, is that they are sensitive to neonicotinoids, the chemical used by farmers to repel insects. This creates a nuanced issue of whether or not we should ban them altogether,

When neonicotinoids cause migratory songbirds to lose weight, it disturbs their natural migration cycle because their bodies aren't equipped to travel long distances. This is why we must ban the usage of this chemical in agriculture. #39canimals

Neonicotinoids, the chemical contained in many deadly insecticides, is often coated on top of the seeds that farmers use. This is the form in which they are consumed by songbirds. It can cause them to lose weight unhealthily. #39canimals
