Debunking the Phantom Debts and Ecological Loan Fallacy

My attention has been drawn to trending claims by the Anambra State Government that my administration left behind inherited debts, including a ₦2 billion ecological loan, contractor liabilities, and unpaid salaries, gratuities, and pensions. This is completely false.

We systematically liquidated historical gratuities and arrears dating back several years, amounting to over ₦35 billion. At the point of handover, the state owed nothing in salaries, gratuities, or pensions, nor did we owe anything to any contractor for projects duly executed and certified.

The ₦2 billion ecological fund in question was released barely three months before the end of my tenure for the Oko/Umuchiana erosion crisis. Despite pressure to spend the money, I refused, insisting that it should be left for my successor because government is a continuum and the funds were tied to a specific project.

The money was therefore left 100 per cent intact in First Bank, in Account No. 2018779464, with a balance of over ₦2.13 billion.

It is important to stress that funds tied to specific projects or set aside for particular purposes were not even included in the over ₦75 billion in savings we left behind.

If anybody can establish anything to the contrary, I will stop campaigning. -PO

The US court convicted a US president who is to take over power in 10 days. Although no jail term was imposed & no fine, it will be on his record as being convicted in the hush money case. Again, Nigeria still has a very long way to go in getting to do the right thing.

While it is arguable that with the President and Vice President absent from the Villa , there is no vacancy in the Presidency, in a situation where both the President and Vice President are out of the country, as reported in the media yesterday, it's concerning for a country with such myriads of domestic problems.

The President had told us he would only be gone for 14 days. The 14 days have passed now, and we are waiting to see him in the country.

One would have expected him to return earlier than expected, considering the volume of work that needs to be done in a troubled nation like ours.

The untold hardship that has been unleashed on our people as a result of some of his administration's policies is unimaginable and we need his urgent attention to pilot the nation out of this present situation.

Again, since the President is reportedly in Paris, France, which is just about 833 nautical miles from Stockholm, Sweden, one wonders why he did not just attend the 2-day working visit to Sweden. He could simply have done it on his way back from France with his new powerful jet, which would have taken him a little over 2 hours.

This would have saved time and the very scarce national resources we need critically at this time. Instead, he delegated the Vice President, who needed to travel 3055 nautical miles, over nine hours, and (about 4 times the travel time from Paris) Abuja, Nigeria, to Stockholm, Sweden, to represent him at the event. It would take about 4 times the time and distance it takes to travel from Paris to Stockholm to travel from Abuja to Stockholm.

This does not represent the kind of fiscal responsibility and common sense that is expected of leaders whose people are facing severe hunger and poverty.

This is the time to show true and committed leadership to the people by making decisions that prioritize the well-being of the people and effective management of the nation's scarce resources in alleviating the sufferings of the people.

A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

Say, for example, we could be going to these places with, say, 10 billion dollars.

In an actual sense, I did not become a CEO through wishful thinking.

I did not rig the elections to become CEO; I had qualifications that there was no single doubt about.

I had results with no subjective bias

That was how I became CEO.

I now know that my decisions will determine whether my investors go bankrupt and whether I will leave a legacy of somebody who knows what he is doing.

Right?

I am that CEO.

Now here comes one man who kept dragging the issue of his certificate around with people: a public officer.

The same man said, "If democracy is not served, you should snatch it." In essence, kill for it.

The same person who did not respect the rule of law in his own country, carried Emefiele; he was asked to release him on bail, and he said no.

Your dogs are dragging meat with your cat.

This is now you, coming in front of me.

You are now telling me that I should bring 10 billion dollars and come and do business in a place where you have total control, and you, who have control, don't have respect for any rule of law.

So if I have issues in your country, which law firm would represent me, and which judge would sit on the matter?

Is it the same judge who cannot interpret you people's constitutions properly?

You now think that I became CEO by being stupid.

You now think that I am going to jump up and bring in 10 billion dollars. Do you know the meaning of 10 billion dollars?

Sorry, it is not by wooing or by toasting.

It is based on proper microeconomic facts and statistics, and they don't lie; the numbers do not lie.

And every CEO became CEO by trusting numbers, not by trusting people.
