Three years ago I met a kid on a Hockey Fights Cancer shoot who faced down a terminal prognosis with absolute resolve & a determination to help others. She made & sold jewelry to raise funds for other kids with cancer and insisted on adopting multiple families at Christmas…
She’s the same age as my oldest daughter & I fell in instant love with her. Most people did. She became my family. She thought of others so I thought of Soph. Everyone at the Sabres did—we all just wanted to make her smile & I’m so grateful to my colleagues & the team for that.
Sophia deserved a long, happy life without chronic pain. She should be spending next season visiting every NHL arena. We should be going to Greece for spring break like we dreamed about. She should grow up to take my job at the Sabres like we wished.
Absolutely devastated by this loss. Sophia was always smiling and thinking of others while going through her own battles for years. She loved cheering on the boys, and especially her bestie Rasmus.
She will be missed by so many. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
The entire Sabres organization is deeply saddened by the passing of our friend, Sophia LaBorde. 💜
Despite all that she faced at a young age, Sophia's contagious smile, strength, and caring nature touched us all.
Our love and condolences go out to Sophia’s family and friends during this unimaginable time.
We are sad to announce the passing of former Sabres captain and general manager Gerry Meehan.
The thoughts of the entire Sabres community are with his friends and family. 💙
