💰 Iran War’s Real Price Tag: $72 Billion in 60 Days, Nearly Triple What Pentagon Told Congress

The Pentagon told Congress the Iran war cost $25 billion for its first 60 days, then revised it to $29 billion, without providing a single breakdown to back up either figure.

Stephen Semler of the Security Policy Reform Institute puts the real figure at $72 billion, broken into four categories:

▪️ Operations: Deployment and fuel costs

▪️ Weapons: Over $40 billion, driven by interceptor missile burn rates

▪️ Losses: Base damage the Pentagon conceals through deals with satellite imagery companies to suppress or delay imagery

▪️ Subsidies: U.S. funding and support for Israel’s war costs, including weapons transfers that bypass congressional oversight

A key hidden cost: the Pentagon tracks munitions at their original purchase price. Each SM-2 missile fired logs at $1.2 million, its 2010 cost, but its replacement, the SM-6, costs over $6 million.

The $72 billion covers direct war costs only, excluding veterans’ disability payments and broader economic ripple effects Semler warns will compound for decades.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
