Finally sharing some photos from the stunning Cesar region of Colombia from earlier this year with my friend Pete Shen and our guide Jose Luis Ropero. The latest AviList update now recognises Perija Parakeet as a distinct species separate from Painted Parakeet.
Plains-wanderer (female) - another single species family bird from a recent trip to Australia. Feather pattern reminiscent of South American Seedsnipes. Flight reminiscent of a Common Sandpiper.
An added bonus in the locality is an awesome pie shop in nearby Deniliquin.
Not a picture I'm going to win any awards for, but taken at an ISO of 25,600 at 5:50 am in a dark wooded area by a stream. I could barely see the bird! It's amazing what noise reduction software can achieve. Spotted Elachura, a single species family bird from AR, India.
@girasole_l Copper pheasant is definitely possible there. I saw a pair in 2019. There are also Japanese Flying Squirrels which are interesting too. Think there are bears as well … many walkers in the woodland carry bells so they don’t surprise them. Beautiful place.
@john_cantelo I’ll give it a listen as I see it’s available on Audible. Other than Kingbird Highway I’ve been a little disappointed with big year books.
Three Monkeys from Peru; Squirrel, Capuchin & Woolly.
Lynx Edicion All the Mammals of the World is on my Christmas wish list so hopefully I will be able to identify them to species if I'm fortunate enough to receive a copy.
@GibsonTomgibo I have a Pulsar XQ38 you can try out for a while to see if it works for you. My experience is that they are very effective where the heat differential is greatest. To be honest it’s not really my thing and I’m paranoid about taking it overseas in case I get arrested.
