Went to some hardware shops in Shenzhen and was impressed to see firsthand why it’s one of the best places in the world for building hardware

The supply chain here is incredibly strong and affordable — companies can source components locally, iterate quickly, and keep costs low. Consumers can easily access these products too

Here are 3 cool consumer hardware spots I visited:

1. Inno100: Kickstarter’s first official flagship store in Shenzhen. A hands-on space where you can experience and customize innovative hardware like companion robots and smart gadgets.

They also have a “Universal Customization Workshop” with laser cutters and 3D printers so you can make your own items on the spot.

One big observation was that companion robots are quite a huge market in China. There are so many adorable options and many families (including my friends with kids) have several at home

2. Bambu Lab Flagship Store: A hands-on retail space to test, experience, and buy their latest 3D printers. What stood out was their open community sessions teaching kids how to use 3D printers which the slots were fully booked

3. Huaqiangbei: Known as the world’s largest consumer electronics and hardware market. It’s massive and you can find everything from individual components to cheap gadgets and also plenty of Apple and Dyson replicas (lol)
