Israel is not used to Palestinians dealing with it eye to eye. This time they are.

Hamas has decided to delay the release of the second batch of Israeli hostages until Israel complies with all the terms of the swap agreement.

1- two Palestinians were killed in Gaza, others injured when Israeli soldiers fired live ammunition at them. One of them was seen in a video bleeding on the floor, people couldn’t reach him to rescue him because of snipers’ fire targeting anyone approaching him

2- agreement said that Palestinian women and teens would be selected for release based on how long they had been in jail, something Isreal did not do yesterday

3- aid trucks were prevented from reaching areas in northern Gaza

4- the no-fly zone was breached by Israel

5- Israel took tough measures to restrain the gathering of Palestinians receiving their loved-ones

6- Israel did not treat the liberated Palestinians well before releasing them

On the other hand, Hamas and other Palestinian factions complied with all terms agreed upon

The BBC admits what many of us have been saying for some time: The damage Israel's war is inflicting on the US/EU's global standing due to their refusal to pressure Israel to stop the carnage will reach a point in which the West will be forced - out of pure self-interest - to stop Israel.

They didn't censor it because of "any substantive or technical aspects" in the piece but because - as they told the author - they had "concerns about editors who might oppose or be offended by the piece, as well as concerns that the piece might provoke a reaction from members of the public who might in turn harass, dox, or otherwise attempt to intimidate our editors, staff, and HLR leadership".

The Nation however courageously decided to publish it so you can judge for yourself whether it is so offensive...

This type of censorship is, by the way, also a key characteristic of the colonial condition. When those victims of colonialism or neocolonialism simply are denied a voice, the right to plead their case, because it is "offensive".

Sadly it is not only the case of the Palestinians, it is very much still the story of the entire global South today. That's actually what motivated me to start tweeting in the first place, when I witnessed that the China story - a country I know well - was pretty much only told from the standpoint of the West and the Chinese viewpoint was too "offensive" to be heard. China isn't colonized anymore by any stretch of the imagination and most global South countries aren't anymore either - the Palestinians' plight is undeniably incomparably worse - but still, there are many structural aspects of their former colonized status that remain, and notably this grossly unfair invisibilization of their voice which at best is seen with condescension and at worse considered a dangerous "malign influence". This needs to stop. We have to invent a new world where all cultures, all peoples are allowed to have a voice which are heard with the exact same amount of respect and goodwill.
