Hitler didn't just fail to be 'far left', he built his regime specifically to destroy it.

Within months of taking power in 1933, the Nazis banned trade unions outright, seized their assets, and arrested their leaders. The first people sent to Dachau weren't Jews, they were German communists and socialists.

The KPD (Communist Party) and SPD (Social Democrats) were banned and their members hunted.

Ernst Thälmann, leader of the German Communist Party, was imprisoned for over a decade and executed on Hitler's direct order in 1944.

Rudolf Breitscheid, a socialist leader, died in Buchenwald.

Erich Mühsam, an anarchist writer, was tortured and murdered in a camp.

Carl von Ossietzky, a left-wing pacifist journalist and Nobel laureate, died from the effects of camp abuse.

These aren't fringe examples: they were the opening act of the #Holocaust's machinery, tested first on the left.

None of this happened by accident, as @elonmusk well knows.

The Nazis rose to power with major financial backing from German industrialists (Krupp, Thyssen, IG Farben) who saw Hitler as a useful tool to crush organized labour and the socialist movements threatening their fortunes.

Sound familiar?

That alliance between ultranationalist politics and industrial capital isn't a left-wing pattern. It's the textbook definition of the far right.

Calling this 'far left' isn't just wrong, it's backwards, and pushing it to 200 million people because it flatters a culture-war talking point is genuinely dangerous.

Again, as Musk well knows.

Historical literacy about how fascism actually operates is what lets people recognise it next time.

Getting this backwards doesn't just insult the dead, it disarms the warning system.

It's so creepy how evangelical Christians fetishize Jews and Israel. They treat the modern state of Israel like a magical fantasy land and talk about Jewish people like fairy folk, because those words happen to appear in some ancient book of made-up stories.

They regard today's genocidal apartheid colonialists in the state of Israel as biblical Israelites, and think some dentist in New York City is the same sort of person as the fictional characters they read about in the book of Exodus. It's like if someone took over New Zealand and named it "Middle Earth" and started calling all the Kiwis "hobbits", and then all the Tolkien nerds started oohing and ahhing about it and planning expensive trips to go see the land where Gandalf and Frodo once walked, and started organizing lobby groups and voting blocks to promote the foreign policy interests of "Gondor" (formerly Wellington).

And the modern state of Israel is built around facilitating this exact type of fetishization. They resurrected a dead language that hadn't been spoken conversationally anywhere on earth for centuries and changed the name of their currency from the lira to the "shekel" in order to facilitate this Bible-LARPing and build on the illusion that their brand new ethnostate is the same as the nation that Jews and Christians have been reading about in their ancient scriptures. All to ensure that a western political support base will push western governments to pour modern war machinery into propping up this ridiculous apartheid state with the nonstop violence required for its perpetuation.

Aimé Césaire wrote it in 1950 and Europe has been trying to ignore it ever since.

In Discourse on Colonialism, he stated plainly: what the "very distinguished, very humanistic, very Christian bourgeois of the twentieth century" found unforgivable about Hitler was not what he did.

It was to whom he did it.

Hitler applied to European people the methods that Europe had been applying to African and Asian people for centuries.

The dehumanization.
The racial hierarchy.
The biological categorization that placed some human beings outside the protections extended to others.
The organized, bureaucratic, industrialized killing.

None of that was new.

The novelty was the victims.

When Léopold II ran the Congo as a personal extraction enterprise and killed an estimated ten million people — when his agents cut off the hands of Congolese workers who did not meet their rubber quotas, when they took photographs of the severed hands arranged in rows, European civilization was not seized by an unprecedented moral crisis.

It was a business story.

A question of colonial administration.

A management problem in a distant place populated by people whose deaths registered as statistics, when they registered at all.

Hitler's crime, in European memory, was not the method.

It was the application of the method to people Europe had decided were people.

That decision, who counts, is what Césaire was writing about.

It has not been adequately answered.

Let me tell you about the atmospheric sponge effect driven by climate change.

Think of the air like a giant sponge. As the planet warms up, that sponge expands. For every single degree the temperature ticks up, the air can hold about 7% more water.

At first, this giant sponge just sits there, thirstily sucking moisture out of everything. It dries out the soil, sucks the water right out of plants, and turns forests into absolute tinderboxes. That is why we are seeing wildfires ignite and spread faster than ever before.

But here is the catch: a sponge can only hold so much water before it gets completely soaked.

When that overloaded air hits its limit, it doesn't give us a nice, gentle rain over a few weeks. It wrings itself out all at once. We get a massive dump of water in just a matter of hours, leading to brutal flash floods, mudslides, and intense storms.

We are basically losing our normal, predictable seasons. Instead, we are stuck in this loop of bouncing from severe droughts straight into intense floods, and then right back to the heat.
