The first data update for global sea surface temperatures for 2024 was just released, and a new record anomaly occurred on January 4th at 0.73°C above the 1991-2020 mean, beating all the f&%kery that happened in 2023.

Here is a redo of my prediction for 1.5°C with the new ERA5 data, using an extremely well fiting quadratic trend line.

This shows 1.5°C being passed in 2032. But since it's a 10-year *trailing* average, the actual year breaking 1.5°C will be ~2027. Likewise, 2°C broken in ~2040.
