GVMC Commissioner Shri Ketan Garg, IAS, along with Gajuwaka MLA Shri Palla Srinivasa Rao, inspected the proposed road widening works on Kanithi Road from Vantillu Junction to Jaggu Junction in Gajuwaka Zone and directed officials to begin the works at the earliest.

During the inspection of the 1.3 km proposed stretch, the MLA highlighted the severe daily traffic congestion on the road and the inconvenience caused to commuters and local residents, urging immediate commencement of the widening works.

Responding to the request, the Commissioner informed that tenders for the 1.3 km road widening project have already been finalized and that the works will begin shortly. He instructed Engineering and Town Planning officials to ensure smooth execution of the project without causing inconvenience to the public.

GVMC Commissioner Shri Ketan Garg, IAS Launches ‘Waste to Wonder’ Championship; Registrations Now Open

GVMC Commissioner Shri Ketan Garg, IAS has launched the “Waste to Wonder” Championship Competitions under Swachh Survekshan 2025–26, inviting welding shops, fabrication units and independent metal artists to transform scrap into creative sculptures for a cleaner, greener and more beautiful Visakhapatnam.

This first-of-its-kind initiative by GVMC promotes innovative reuse of waste materials, environmental responsibility and urban beautification across all GVMC zones. Participants are required to create 4 to 8 feet sculptures using at least 80% scrap iron and automobile waste. Attractive cash prizes worth a total of ₹22.50 lakhs will be awarded across all zones, along with certificates for all participants.

Eligible welding shops, fabrication units and independent metal artists within GVMC limits are invited to register and submit their entries on or before April 10, 2026.

GVMC Commissioner Shri Ketan Garg, IAS, Directs Strict Action to Strengthen Sanitation in Wards

GVMC Commissioner Shri Ketan Garg, IAS, conducted a field inspection in Ward No. 20, East Zone, covering Pedawaltair, Visakha Eye Hospital and surrounding areas, and reviewed the sanitation works being carried out in the locality.

During the inspection, the Commissioner instructed Public Health officials to ensure strict monitoring of sanitation management in all wards and directed that fines be imposed on commercial establishments dumping waste on roads, in open places, and in drains.

He emphasized the need for regular waste clearance, effective shop-to-shop waste collection through commercial garbage vehicles, and the proper deployment of sanitation workers and CLAP vehicles in their allotted areas on time.

As part of the enforcement drive, fines were ordered against establishments found violating sanitation norms, reinforcing GVMC’s commitment to maintaining a clean, hygienic, and plastic-free Visakhapatnam.

During the inspection, he interacted with sanitation workers and instructed them to perform their duties with dedication and sincerity. The Commissioner applauded the dedication and hard work of the night sanitation workers, acknowledging their vital role in keeping Visakhapatnam clean while the city rests. 🌃✨

GVMC Commissioner Shri Ketan Garg, IAS, inspected the 10 MGD Water Supply Pumping Station at Sundarayya Colony, Zone-6, Gajuwaka, and directed Water Supply Engineers to strengthen maintenance and ensure daily water quality testing across all pumping stations under GVMC limits.

During the inspection, the Commissioner reviewed the SCADA system, pump operations, power control room, water treatment processes, filtration output, and overall drinking water supply mechanisms. Engineering officials also presented a detailed PPT on water inflow, filtration quality, and supply distribution to Gajuwaka.

He instructed engineers to:
✔ Conduct daily water quality tests as per SOP
✔ Send samples to labs and maintain proper registers
✔ Train Ward Amenities Secretaries on water supply operations
✔ Improve station cleanliness and enhance greenery
✔ Ensure timely collection of water charges for financial sustainability

Mayor Inspects Development Works at Gokada Cheruvu and Surya Nagar Park

Mayor Sri Peela Srinivasa Rao inspected the ongoing works at Gokada Cheruvu in Sundara Nagar and the park at Surya Nagar. He said that well-developed parks and lakes are essential for creating pleasant public spaces and highlighted that, under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, special attention is being given to beautifying urban parks and water bodies.

The Commissioner directed Engineering officials to ensure that all proposals are prepared with complete measurements, clear estimates, and proper field inspection. He cautioned that strict action will be taken if any proposal lacks clarity or is submitted without thorough scrutiny.

He also expressed displeasure over incomplete estimates for the BT road in Sundarayya Colony and instructed officials to prepare proposals with accuracy and comprehensive documentation.
