ISTM the real divide in the AI writing debates may be between people who think human language is data, and people who think language is something else.
@atlanticesque I will vote for whatever person looks me in the eye and says that they'll fall on their sword to end entitlement payments, burning bridges and political capital with 98% of the rest of the institutions. This is the hero we need, who will commit political suicide to stop the debt.
@JHWeissmann I follow for the combination of pronatalism and unhinged takes. For society to function you need at least one guy going "nah, no one should have hobbies I think they're probably sinful, go grind more GDP"
@suzania And it's very true that a computer can't "do mathematics" in that sense. But most folks will answer the question "can a computer do math" with an incredulous "of course it can" because to them doing math is about the raw calculation
One of the really hard things about AI discourse is that the language leads people to talk past each other. When Susannah says that a computer can't "do math" she means something fundamentally different than when someone more pro-AI says a computer CAN "do math"
@jessenigro@lymanstoneky@lymanstoneky, no, I donโt think we are. We have reason, we have logos. We can do math, for example. A computer canโt. It canโt mean anything. We are able to mean things and understand them.

@exarchrainy Condiments go next to meat and veg, not next to cheese and bread, otherwise you'll create a tiny mayonnaise pocket and you wont help flavor the meat
@suzania@orangecmp@PaddyAlton@UntoldFortune@clbolt I don't know for sure if this is the case, but my guess is that this post was referring to the use of an LLM in the assistance of Game Development/Game Creation, not in the playing of said computer game. The poster used CLAUDE to troubleshoot bugs in the code
@Pentigan@WheredJasonGo To be clear: I thought it was a good movie that doesn't go quite as hard in either direction with its premise as it could and arguably should. Pre-marital sex is not demonized, but marriage is not really held up as a greater arrangement either, and the film doesn't explore pltiks
@Pentigan@WheredJasonGo Saw the film, enjoyed it, and am a Christian; but that is definitely not what it is. Spoilers: Main Characters don't end the film married. The actual message of the film seems to be "you should have a real connection with someone before having sex".
Sometimes someone retweets someone else you were pretty sure you were following, and when you go to re-follow you're informed that they have blocked you. And as a primarily lurking account, that is a bizzare feeling.
I've designed the 'Disney Remake Triangle.'
The three main films encapsulate the three distinct approaches Disney takes when remaking their animated films. Every other Disney remake is a combination of two of these approaches.
@atlanticesque@CameronCorduroy Also: I can be a Republican Conservative, and think that both Platner AND Trump are morally repugnant people who should not hold office; while even at the same time acknowledging that Trump has policy positions I agree with and am even thankful for.
