"Joining" the US-led MD has been a contentious issue w/in the ROK, but it has recently moved in that direction. I highlight key triggers that have strengthened the military logic of integration: NK's tests of missiles using lofted trajectories, maneuverable vehicles, and SLBMs.

I show how U.S. regional MD policy (w/ emphasis on integration with allies) has provided a political and strategic benefit for the US: it has anchored military cooperation between ROK and Japan, two allies without a history of direct military cooperation.
