Comrades @BalaamBarugahar and @JustineNameere's anti-corruption methods in local government might appear unorthodox, but that is what you need to confront the type of corruption that has no face, no clear target, no defined paper trail and one that thrives in sophistication.
A shillings 9 trillion- a - year graft economy that has defined Uganda for the last 2.5 decades does not need speeches, conferences, electioneering, national prayer breakfasts, anti-corruption walks and marathons. It needs boots on the ground ready to unleash "blood and iron," fist for fist, and social media exposure.
This might leave innocent collateral damage in its wake and the strategic bypassing of the biggest fish - the tilapia, the nile perches, and the sharks of ocean-size corruption in Uganda for political expediency, but we've got to start somewhere; support these comrades with tips, reposts and encouragement.
I have argued before that fighting corruption is going to be our generational mission, for if not tackled, it will compromise our future (SEE: https://t.co/cq59Uw57wA). I also said it will be more meaningful if every fish - big and small - is touched and jailed, when proven guilty.
Therefore, this fight is not for Balaam and Nameere alone. It is for every Ugandan. And graft fighters who are not in government must not be framed and blackmailed as enemies of the state or even foreign agents by state actors, for it to have any sense of purpose. We now have state actors who have put their boots on the ground.
Corruption kills the commom good like roads, railways, hospitals, schools, electricity, etc. And when emergency healthcare comes knocking in circumstances like an accident on a bad road, no one is privilaged anymore. It is non partisan. We, or our loved ones will be levelled on that cold dilapidated hospital floor first before rescue helicopters pick out the privilaged.
This corruption of the Ugandan version is a national pandemic that requires everyone's support and involvement.
If these comrades maintain the course for the next six months, they will become our persons of the year for 2026. Share your views!
