@ahleighjohnson I totally agree! I also feel like these affordances can change from person to person and even friend group to friend group. #450SocialSP24
@DravenJDavid The quote “if we aren’t being sold something then we are the product” totally stuck with me throughout the class! A very interesting way to look at social media. #450SocialSP24
@Katheri52612252 I agree! I’m really glad we watched this movie in class, it opened my eyes up a lot and made me more aware of my screen time. #450SocialSP24
One thing I took away from this class is how intentional every aspect of social media design is. It seems like almost every feature and button were carefully designed to suck us in further and make media apart of our real world instead of it just being an escape. #450SocialSP24
@zachwhite2111@Cmoore1970 I think weak ties on social media can be a great source of information and a really effective way to spread information and even in some cases ask for help. When I heard the term "weak" I assumed it wouldn't be as functional but it many cases it can be! #450SocialSP24
@kenvillegas16 This is really interesting! I would think that mainstream news outlets have an ethical ranking of important issues. However, i'm sure they base what they report off of expected view numbers meaning more money. #450SocialSP24
@baileeo01 I agree with you that Flint needed those strong ties to get things done. When it comes to activism, I think it's effective to have a mix of both the strong and weak ties because you needs the community, but you also need the reach. #450SocialSP24
Media ideologies are so interesting to me. I am always taken back when people post or say something that doesn’t align with the same“rules” and “standards” as me when it comes to a media platform which is silly because they can be unique to everyone. #450SocialSP24
@NicoShiverick I agree! After hearing about the slot machine analogy, I was looking at my instagram and cold totally see resemblances like refreshing the feed and not knowing what content was going to show up while the spinning wheel is rolling. #450SocialSP24
@DruT_BSU When it comes to the question of who should be held responsible, I think we as consumers along with the developers need to be. On a personal level we need to take a step back and reevaluate and the large developers need to recheck their intentions. #450SocialSP24
@ahleighjohnson Yes! I also thought this was so interesting! They explained that our brains just aren't programmed for that constant upkeep of approval which ultimately explains so much. I also think this way about our attention spans, they aren't meant to be so short. #450SocialSP24
Do you think online spaces and such as the "Lesbian cafe" will be more beneficial or harmful towards the evolution of relationships. I can't help but think it encourages virtual and in some cases dangerous communication rather than personal face to face connection #450SocialSP24
@KaylaS58562 For me, I am definitely more authentic on my close friends story rather than my public account. I feel more comfortable on here and post a lot more because I know everyone personally who is viewing it. #450SocialSP24
@ahleighjohnson This is really interesting! I think it is harder to pick up on body language through zoom and FaceTime, and sometimes even tone. You are not getting the full picture like you are in person but I do think it’s more effective than text or phone. #450SocialSP24
@michaelapaolini This is really interesting to think about because it is true that when I post I imagine and assume who is seeing it. Things are much more permanent than we assume, even on platforms like Snapchat where they disappear. #450SocialSP24
While people may post selfies for validation in some way , what does it say about someone who takes selfies just for themselves and chooses not to put them out for the public? Would the meaning behind the selfie be different? #450SocialSP24
@KaylaS58562 This reminds me of the idea that if you are not being sold something online, then you are the product. Its true that technology works as a mutually beneficial relationship and the internet needs and uses us in ways while we are using it. #450SocialSP24
@kenvillegas16@Cmoore1970 I think this is super instresting! I guess the overall concepts would be the same, but I think the way we think about these concepts like anxiety, and how it effects us is completely different that it was during a time without technology. #450SocialSP24
