one of the underrated realities of startups is how much variance there is in building anything genuinely new.

a company can spend two years pursuing one vision, throw it away, launch something completely different, & suddenly look like an overnight success.

from the outside it feels smooth cuz you don’t know. from the inside it’s often very hectic. when you’re operating at the frontier, the map is wrong, the market is moving, & your understanding compounds faster than your execution.

seeing companies founded ~2 years ago pivot & launch entirely new products today is a good reminder that almost nobody knows what they’re building at the start. they discover it along the way.

Even with employer caps, the spend on AI tokens dramatically exceeds any other historical spend on software.

Typically, companies maybe would spend on the order of $10-50 for a software license per month per employee, but now will pay hundreds or thousands on tokens to augment their productivity.

This shows you how big the TAM for intelligence is in the enterprise. The markets for AI are going to dramatically expand the size of the traditional software markets over time.

i realized something recently

bernie sanders and AOC have damaged the fabric of america immensely but we rarely talk about it

bernie/AOC have vilified successful businessmen & women. calling CEOs like elon musk, bezos, zuck evil. yes these people have shortcomings - but they are also truly self made, come from normal/humble backgrounds. with hard work they created trillions in economic value. isn’t that a fundamental part of what america is about? the land of opportunity?

in the 2000s when i was in elementary school, bill gates and steve jobs were viewed as role models. our teachers taught us about how much they achieved + given to society. these CEOs were actually respected and i believe this culture brought up a generation of ambitious hard working americans

now, kids are being taught that working hard and becoming a billionaire is evil. we’re essentially telling them to have victim mindset and stay poor

i know bernie/AOC & crew are never going to take responsibility. i can’t even tell if they realize what they’re doing

@GergelyOrosz Second order effects are rarely considered in these types of moves. It’s like when google gutted all of the Assistant Eng team for Gemini. Leaving Assistant in the 💩 for 8 months of more
