The Latam financial system is crazy - my Brazilian credit card had an annual interest rate of 300% on late payments.

A weird but cool side-effect is that it birthed great fintechs that trained excellent software engineers, who now work for world class fintechs all over the world

@zachweinberg I'd worry that it would be too powerful an incentive for kids to follow the 'safe-school-approved' route. Too many adults stay in law, banking, etc. because it is too hard to walk away from the salary. It would be sad if kids lost their entrepreneurial interests for an extra $100

Housing affordability is a massive issue almost everywhere.
Thank god remote work has helped some be more flexible on where they can live. Imagine how bad this would be if all tech workers were still forced to live in NY and San Francisco.

@amasad I used to live in the US and then returned - this data reflects my experience accurately. The US feels shockingly richer than it was only a relatively short period ago.

I have a team of developers I’ve never met in person working for clients that I’ve never met in person.

Entrepreneurship is not glamorous

People think starting a business is glamorous. It’s not.

I remember sitting in a junior analyst's office for 45 minutes while I waited for someone who was really late for a sales meeting.

Clients won’t take you seriously, perspective employees won’t take you seriously. Even your friends, your families, your old colleagues don't. Because why would they? You have nothing. It takes years before you can build up anything of value to anybody.
