It’s sad that we have to resort to legal action but we are left with no choice. We must protect these vital services at all costs & if @hackneycouncil @carowoodley won’t fight to save our children’s centres then #Hackney’s residents will do so. Huge thanks to @ris_law@alexrook1!
Fernbank Children’s Centre nursery has the biggest baby room of all #Hackney’s children’s centres. It makes NO SENSE to close these high-quality, inclusive, affordable Children’s Centre nurseries, given the above. These proposals are wrong & unnecessary @hackneycouncil! END 🧵
All this funding is seemingly being offered to PRIVATE PROVIDERS, instead of @hackneycouncil’s own children’s centres, which won’t be eligible. So not only is @carowoodley breaching mayoral commitments to insourcing, they are now actually giving private providers extra funding!
@carowoodley @AnntoinetteBra1 why are you supporting the possible closure of quality Children’s Centre nurseries in an area your own data is stating there will be insufficient places for expansion? Especially when you have LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY to ensure childcare sufficiency?
The letter states: "Government studies and OUR OWN SUFFICIENCY DATA all points to the greatest need being in the north of the borough" - the very same area @hackneycouncil plan on shutting Fernbank Children’s Centre nursery & reducing provision at Hillside & Oldhill nurseries!
Stunned to learn that @hackneycouncil have sent THIS👇LETTER to #Hackney childcare providers, outlining a grant scheme of £500k to help increase places for 9 month-3 year olds ahead of gov expansion of free hours, stating the greatest need is in North - where Fernbank CC is! A🧵
TODAY (24th April) IS THE LAST DAY FOR COMPLETING @hackneycouncil’s CONSULTATION SURVEY ON CHILDREN’S CENTRE CLOSURES! Please oppose all changes & closures: https://t.co/jBjn7cLAYg
No cuts to quality, affordable #EarlyYears provision! No privatisation!
#SaveOurChildrensCentres!
@carowoodley @carowoodley to over-achieve on cuts will benefit who exactly?? Think it through. Do you want the local economy to suffer when working families have to move away? Do you want women to have to quit their careers to stay home for childcare? Is that your plan?
@carowoodley will you give any consideration to the report commissioned or offer viable alternatives to the displacement of 200 local children & their families from affordable childcare? I thought Hackney cared about children.
@SaveOurSebright@Save_Fernbank@SaveHillsideN16
@carowoodley making cuts for the sake of making cuts. What utter nonsense. Are you ok?? Do you understand the implications of these cuts to the families affected?
@PregnantScrewed Thank you so much for your support @PregnantScrewed! You get it - when will @carowoodley? What a disappointment #Hackney’s first woman to be elected Mayor has been. She should be supporting women and vulnerable children, not cutting affordable childcare spaces & vital services.

Tell @carowoodley @mayorofhackney@hackneycouncil NO CLOSURES OF CHILDREN’S CENTRES that offer subsidised care to poorer families & vulnerable children.

On this #IWD the #SaveOurChildrensCentres campaign calls on @carowoodley-the first woman to be elected @mayorofhackney-
TO STAND UP FOR #WOMEN, who desperately need affordable #childcare & STOP PROPOSED CLOSURES OF #HACKNEY’S CHILDREN’S CENTRES.
Do better for women.👇says it all.
