Odds of a child getting kidnapped are ~1 in a million.
Odds of a child born in 2021 dying in a traffic crash are ~1 in 93.
Parents act like these stats are reversed. Paranoid about rare kidnappings and naive about the common driving.
(Natl Safety Council tracks this stuff)

It is devastating talking to parents who spend hours advocating for safety around their children's school, attend meetings, get signatures, surveys, encourage walking/biking with weekly events & so much more for an engineer to just crush any progress.
To improve traffic & pedestrian safety, the JC Dept of Infrastructure held a Traffic Calming Pop-Up Event along Monticello on the Westside. Areas were painted with the help of the community to allow safer crossings at the intersections between Fairview & Fairmont Ave. #visionzero
@Kenmcld Agree, but so many local gov’t in my state don’t have the capacity to spend federal $$$. Even the best towns will take 10 years to spend grant money. What’s your take?
What if this kind of change was business-as-usual for cities? It would save lives & reduce crashes for everyone, improve public health & livability, decrease pollution & climate change emissions through increased walkability, & much more.
It wouldn’t take much. Just leadership.
E-Cargo bikes are the future of deliveries!
Today we announced that we've authorized the use of e-cargo bikes on our streets & established key safety standards including new rules designed to make deliveries safer & more sustainable by reducing the number of large trucks in NYC.
We are going to work to expand this citywide for school zones and high pedestrian areas - we have been a national leader in #VisionZero to eliminate car related fatalities on our streets and making the streets safer for pedestrians
Temporary demonstration pop up bike lane results published! We found a 21% reduction in average speeds for right-turning vehicles, based on over 9,000 motor-vehicle trajectories.
