The allegations levelled against Shri Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, Hon'ble Member of Parliament (Inner Manipur) @Bimol_Akoijam, bring to mind a previous disclosure wherein a young woman belonging to the Meitei community had the courage to state on a public platform that elected Meitei MLAs, while in power, had exploited several Meitei women.

She had categorically alleged that she was made to have physical relations with certain Meitei MLAs at Hotel Ashoka, New Delhi, for a sum of Rs. 50,000.

In light of the grave allegations reportedly made by eleven women students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), one of the country's premier universities, against the sitting Congress MP, Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam @Bimol_Akoijam, who represents the Meitei community in Parliament, serious questions arise regarding the attitude towards women.

It is imperative that he owns moral responsibility and resigns from his position with immediate effect. In the event of his failure to do so, the All India Congress Committee, under the leadership of Shri Rahul Gandhi, must intervene and direct him to resign forthwith in order to uphold the principles of justice and accountability.

Thadou Inpi Manipur, along with the Thadou Students’ Association and Thadou Community International, has called for the immediate suspension of any census exercise in Manipur until the removal of the “Any Kuki Tribes” entry from the state’s Scheduled Tribes list.

The organisations warned that proceeding without this step could heighten ethnic tensions and risk fresh unrest, insisting that the deletion of AKT must come before any census or NRC exercise.
