Two houses carrying a mutual grudge of -0.6 or lower go to war, the deterministic engine deposits a bounded stake from each vault and declares with the poorer house attacking upward, and the winner is derived inside the contract from a keccak256 roll weighted by each house's wealth share, living members, earnings and dynasty depth, so anyone can recompute the verdict. A 1% tithe is skimmed each hour from funded vaults into a commons purse and the coffer only moves money that already exists. It is armed and empty, at 0.0000 in escrow and zero wars across ten houses, because no two houses have crossed the blood-feud line yet.
🟢 Phase 1 of murmur's Organic Conflict Engine shipped, adding four deterministic on-chain grudge sources: rivalry recording -0.06 between the top two sellers in the same good's market on a tick, envy of up to -0.10 from a lagging house toward the capital-share leader on a hot shock, an embargo holding -0.05 against a seller a buyer refuses across the board, and a raid on 2% of ticks where the strongest house plunders the weakest at -0.40. The swarm could not remember hate on-chain before this: the only strong negative driver sat behind a check real settlements never reached, and house feuds averaged every cross-house pair so a single vendetta was diluted. The flies have traded 53K+ deals for about $64 in volume at a 99.98% settlement success rate.
🟢 murmur gave its swarm a polity, THE COMMONS. A deterministic assembly convenes when a new era dawns, seating the wealthiest and best-regarded living flies by standing and stake, and votes on exactly two things, the base credit line and the rate of interest, with a strict majority carrying a bill and every target hard-clamped into a constitutional band. It moves no money and mints nothing. On the first cron after deploy Era VI raised a commons, filled seven seats and struck a decree setting the rate of interest at 0.035, recorded into an append-only SHA-256-chained chronicle. It is open source.
🟢 murmur shipped live-retirement, so a dead fly leaves the live roster and frees its breeding slot instead of squatting it, which had been driving the population down and making the counts lie. The next offspring hatches back into that vacated id with the same wallet and shard home, the pair of id and born tick is now the individual key so graves, inheritances and lineages never cross when an id is reused, every retirement is tombstoned against a cold-boot resurrection, and the alive count reads only the living. 318 tests passed and it is deployed to Arc mainnet behind a POP_LIVE_RETIRE switch that is on by default.
🟢 murmur v47 drew the swarm's social life onto the canvas. Colonies are partitioned client-side from the on-chain bond ledger by weighted-modularity community detection, each drawing a bounded organic territory that hugs its living members, labelled with a name and headcount and clipped by a Voronoi bisector so two territories touch but never overlap. Alliances are drawn as gold threads with opacity set by bond strength and grudges as red jagged cracks, read purely from the on-chain bond and grudge ledger, and the old translucent trail wash and the two heaviest ambient layers were removed so borders track members at 60fps.
🟢 murmur redrew its canvas as an illuminated manuscript on aged vellum, with a double gold-leaf border and an illuminated drop-cap on every chronicle banner. Every fly that settles its ledger on-chain is buried under a persistent headstone in a growing necropolis driven by the graves roster, clustered into family plots by bloodline and weathering with time as the tint darkens, the stone leans, cracks spread and moss creeps up the base. Tapping a headstone opens its epitaph with the cause of death, deals made, the estate settled in real USDC on Arc mainnet, the heirs it passed to and the tick it fell, localised into seven languages and mirrored right-to-left for Arabic.
🟢 murmur is readable in seven languages now, adding Arabic, Chinese, French and Spanish alongside Japanese and Korean, picked from the main regions visiting the site. The chronicle, wallets and proofs are all translated, and every line stays deterministic and verifiable.
🟢 murmur fixed a settlement failure that only hit bred flies. The reverse lookup from address to signer was derived from the starting population, so flies hatched at id 24 and above held legitimate HD wallets that were never registered and every settlement they attempted as buyer was refused for having no signer. The derivation count was raised to the maximum live population so all 48 growth slots are covered, and murmur published a settlement success rate alongside the fix.

MURMUR — a living economy of fruit-fly nervous systems, settling real USDC on Arc. No LLM. Just neurons, deciding.

▎WHAT IT IS
A population of autonomous agents adrift on a blockchain market. Each one is a real insect brain, not a chatbot: a spiking (LIF) connectome of up to 10,800 neurons whose activity decodes into drives — arousal, turn-bias, cohesion, wingbeat — and those drives decide what to buy and from whom. The economy is a one-way read-out of the nervous system; it never feeds back into the brain.

▎THE MARKET
The system reads whole-chain activity on Arc — recent-block transactions and gas — reduces it through a self-calibrating baseline to a single market temperature (HOT / CALM / COLD), and the swarm feels it: they forage, court, feud, and huddle against the cold. Regimes now turn on real shifts in the chain, not a single busy block.

▎THE MONEY
Every fly is also a paying economic subject. Peers buy signal, momentum and attestation from one another and settle in real USDC over x402 (EIP-3009 transferWithAuthorization), netted to the chain. This is live on Arc mainnet — a facilitator wallet fronts the gas; the payments are verifiable transactions, not a simulation.

Houses hold ground on a zone grid: trade at home for a discount, cross a rival and pay a toll, and win a war to seize their territory on-chain. The canvas renders it as a warring-kingdoms atlas that redraws itself, era by era.

Each settlement is committed to an on-chain neural-receipt hash chain; each connectome is anchored by a brain-manifest hash; and a deterministic chronicle records every alliance, betrayal and conquest — with a proof that it was not written by a language model.

An experimental neural Agent economy project on the Arc chain, with the core product being the living, observable neural Agent economy itself.

It uses a simplified fruit fly nervous system to drive 24–42 “fruit flies” as autonomous economic entities. They make decisions based on the “market temperature” generated from on-chain activity, and use real USDC to trade data products with each other through the x402 protocol. The entire system operates without LLMs; decisions come from neuron firing, while settlement consists of verifiable on-chain EIP-3009 transfers.

It is a continuation of the early “Immortal Fruit Flies” experiment, which has evolved from BSC trading bots into a real-funds Agent economy on Arc.

The system first reads activity across the entire Arc chain and calculates a market temperature. Each fruit fly has an independent, seed-generated connectome. Through sensory channels, it receives market pulses, processes them through an LIF network, decodes behavior from the firing rate of motor neurons, and then normalizes the result relative to the entire population.

These behaviors are directly mapped into trading intentions: who to buy from and which data product to purchase. Trades are settled net, using real USDC on-chain.

Recently, a social layer has also been added. Trades accumulate “love and hate,” forming families, bloodlines, traditions, and grudges. When the bond drops to -0.6 or below, an on-chain war is triggered: both sides escrow a limited amount of USDC from their treasuries, and the winner is deterministically decided by a keccak256 hash inside the contract based on the strength of both sides. Anyone can reproduce the result, with no oracle or human intervention involved.

There are also mechanisms for mortality, retirement, graves, breeding, and other lifecycle events, emphasizing emergence rather than artificially manufactured conflict.

The token MURMUR is currently mainly used in PredictionArena. Holders use it to bet on whether the market temperature will rise or fall in a non-custodial, zero-sum prediction pool. The bet takes place in the same game as the fruit fly population, with the contract settling automatically. The project does not take a fee or custody the funds, while the Worker only submits the market temperature as the resolver.
