Reflecting on 20 years in this crazy profession, it's surreal to have reached the "Unc" and "OG" status. Pouring life, love, and light into people has made time fly. Cheers to 20 more and beyond!๐ช๐พโ๏ธ๐ง ๐ช๐พ

When your co-worker's like, "I support erasing your history and the voting districts your ancestors fought and died for. Anyway, let's get out there and beat the Eagles. High-five!"
"Nobody in the world, nobody in history, has ever gotten their freedom by appealing to the moral sense of the people who were oppressing them"

Reminder: the Capitol of the US was moved from Philadelphia, PA to Washington, DC because President Washington wanted to, in part, evade Pennsylvaniaโs Gradual Abolition Act which granted slaves freedom if they were in the state longer than 6 months. Washington would rotate his slaves from Virginia to make sure none of them stayed longer than 6 months so they wouldnโt be granted freedom. Also, they wanted a location to appease southerners who wanted a capital where slavery was accepted.
Remember that next time someone says โthis is not who we are as a countryโ in response to racism cuz this is how we have been from the very beginning lmao
โIโd go to a restaurant and theyโd point at me & say that ni**er canโt eat here. Weโd go to a hotel & theyโd say that ni**er canโt sleep here.โ
Listen to Reggie Jacksonโ& remember that 30+ states have or are trying to criminalize teaching this history.
If James Baldwinโs words from the past still resonate this strongly today, itโs a sign that Americaโs just been treading water, pretending to change while staying exactly the same.
In 250 years, Louisiana has sent 171 white men to Congress.
During Reconstruction, Black people were elected and denied their seats. Only one Black man โ Charles Nash โ served in the 1800s.
Then from 1877 to 1990, Louisiana sent zero Black people to Congress. Zero. For 113 years.
In 1990, Black Louisiana finally got a member of Congress again. Since then, white voters have elected 25 members. Black voters have had 4.
All 4 were in the same room fighting to keep the two seats Black Louisiana fought for.
Donโt tell us this isnโt about denying Black people representation. It always has been.
@repcleofields_ and @reptroycarter were joined by former Congressman Cedric Richmond and William Jefferson to let the record be clear that Black voters are due fair maps.
This image should put things into perspective for you.
Today at the state Capitol, the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee will vote on which congressional map Louisiana will have.

Todayโs Supreme Court decision in Louisiana vs. Callais is a direct attack on Black voters and marks a shameful moment in our democracy. This ruling opens the door to racial gerrymandering that will take us back to Jim Crow. This ruling is a betrayal of Black voters and the promise of democracy. We will not stay silent.

The right-wing Supreme Court has dealt a devastating blow to American democracy and signed the death sentence of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
We will fight back.
My full statement.
School Shooting: Thereโs nothing we can do about this. Donโt politicize these tragedies.
Political Shooting: We need a $400 million bunker built immediately and you hate America if you donโt agree.
