With journalists jailed and a prevailing feeling that anyone could be targeted next, suffocating dread has spread across civil society in Kyrgyzstan.
Let Kyrgyz journalists know that they aren't alone.

We can critically examine the facts behind a story without saying that the story shouldn’t be told. Respectable critics of “wokeness” that I have read don’t see that their defense of universalism and liberty is also engaging in agenda setting that reproduces existing inequities.
I see a similar lack of reflection on the power of agenda setting in the debates about what counts as evidence. To what extent are our standards of rigor contributing to agenda setting of what stories can and should be told?
Today, on #InternationalWomensDay, I call to remember & honor the brave women of Belarus who stood up against tyranny. Masha, Katsiaryna, Marfa, Danuta & many more - there are almost 200 female political prisoners in Belarus right now. Every one of them deserves freedom. #IWD2023

#Belarus In 2022, at least 6,380 people were detained for political reasons. That's 17 people a day. The number might be higher as the regime jailed or pushed out of the country many human rights defenders from @viasna96. People are detained for opposing Lukashenka and the war.
Yesterday the trial of Nobel laureate and Viasna @viasna96 leader Ales Bialitski, his deputy Valiantin Stefanovich and lawyer Uladzimir Labkovich started in Minsk. Today the trial continues.
