No one said Jews haven’t always lived there. But that does not mean every Jew who later settled in Israel descends directly from the ancient population of the land—Ashkenazi Jews have significant European ancestry, while Sephardic Jews have roots across the Mediterranean and Middle East. Palestinians likewise have deep roots in the ancient Levant, including Canaanite and other local populations, and some descend from Jews and Christians who remained, converted, and became Arabized over centuries. Being Jewish is not the same as being Israeli, and Arabization did not make Palestinians foreigners to their own homeland.

Palestinians did not simply arrive with the Arab conquest. They have deep roots in the ancient Levant, including ancestry connected to Canaanite and other ancient populations of the region. Many local inhabitants became Christian, then Muslim, and gradually Arabized over centuries. Some Palestinians therefore descend from people who were once Jewish themselves. Being Jewish is not the same as being Israeli, and Arabization did not erase an indigenous population’s connection to its homeland.
