#Day2 of the #ICCD2026 commenced with a session where @UwezoUganda's ED (@MNakabug) presented a Keynote address titled; "Curriculum Implementation and Learning Outcomes: The Backwash Effects of the Primary Leaving Examination in Uganda." She unpacked the backwash effect as resting on the fact that the evidence on learning outcomes is actually expected to improve the curriculum implementation.
How Uganda's Primary Curriculum is Distorted:
👉Inadequate public funding
👉A focus on high achievers
👉Marketisation of Services (private schooling & tuition)
👉Neglect of "Non-Examined" Subjects
👉Ritualisation of Learning

Prof. Proscovia Namubiru Ssentamu @ProsNamubiru of The Uganda National Institute for Teacher Education @uniteuganda24 discussed this Keynote address and left the conference with the following food for thought;

➡️Blend training with work-based learning
➡️Employers are less involved in the skills development process
➡️The CBC-requires alignment from primary to university while retooling instructors, teachers, lecturers etc.

At our Legal Aid Clinic of #TheLandCamp2026, communities in Apac are not just learning what the law says. They are learning how to use it to protect their land.

Through real-life case discussions and one-on-one legal counselling, community members are engaging legal personnel from @FIDA_Uganda on land ownership and documentation, handling land disputes, reporting rights violations and accessing available legal aid and justice mechanisms.

Synched to the #ICCD2026 theme, the topic presented explored Strengthening Competence-Based Curriculum Implementation through Effective Lesson Planning and Schemes of Work in Uganda Schools.

#ICCD2026: Prof. Benson Banda, one of the Keynote Speakers delivered mind-teasing insights in his address focused on "Curriculum Design and Development: An Innovation for Sustainable Development", where he made the case that most curriculum development in Africa was designed with a focus at content and not concept.

Prof. Benson left the conference with the question: How do we redesign the curriculum so that it works for Africa and for Africa?
