Been trialing https://t.co/UsaeTa0R5M the past couple of weeks and really impressed with the speed and quality. It's even open source and run's locally.

Since I primarily use diction for all my input, I'm glad to finally have a viable local alternative and no longer need to funnel my input through a 3rd-party service.

Use to constantly report dictation quality issues, that never seemed to get addressed.

Processing time for diction was inconsistent, sometimes really quick other times significantly delayed.

Beginning and end of dictation would get cut off, had to frequently (manually) reprocess the request to get the full result.

Often audio would fail to be processed, this occurred more frequently with longer dictations (reprocessing manually routinely didn't work for these). Overall seemed to struggle with inputs longer than a minute.

Dictionary transforms were opaque. I'd see a word show up from the dictionary, but could never correlate what I said with what it was interpreted as.

Interface glitches and submission failures when sending support requests. Could never really be sure if a request had gone through.

The "AI interpreter" would fundamentally alter what I said. Ok with general smoothing (removing filler words) but not altering the meaning.

@StevBuilds I use dictation constantly. Started with Wispr Flow and now I use FluidVoice. Such a better experience and your data remains your own.

@the_ai_pirate Don't pay for what is freely available (for free). FluidVoice is a great alternate (there are others too) that run locally and give better results.

@gary_teroller @WisprFlow Or use a product that doesn't retain your data in the first place. There are tons of local-first superior options out there (I use FluidVoice).

@MaxArmand I tried it a while back and found it clunky to use effectively. Part of that is just how difficult Apple makes it for third party inputs

Surprisingly, this might be the issue that drives me to switch away from an iPhone
