I wrote this close to a year ago and just found it in my notes app, and I feel it more than ever so I thought id post it
I’ve been thinking for a while, the opposite of AI music maybe isnt human music. It’s making music.
The process is the magic. I think anyone whos been lucky enough to make music, or make anything, has been able to feel this in different ways since forever.
I think this is maybe why ive felt no pull whatsoever to even try it. I place so so so much of my identity in that process, and I haven’t found that to be a negative place to put it.
So I have really no desire to do less of that bit. Because that bit is kind of where I find myself most clearly
and it’s also my meditation, daily compass. Giving the process bit to a machine would be intrinsically contrary to what I love about the whole thing.
The clumsy dedicated tumbling towards an idea isss the thing we are most lucky to get to do. The hours and hours and years and years of endlessly trying to make the thing you wish could exist.
Theres lot of things im worried about AI threatening, but that will never be one.
🚨 LATEST: SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce says zero-knowledge proofs could verify compliance without collecting users’ personal data.
She warns current KYC/AML practices create “data haystacks.”
"Pokemon" is short for "pocket monsters".
"Digimon" is short for "digital monsters".
Therefore, "salmon" is short for "saltwater monsters".
(You might object: salmon spend a big part of their life in freshwater. But pokemon spend a big part of their life outside pockets too!)
The word “engineer” comes from the medieval Latin word “ingeniator,” which comes from “ingeniare” meaning clever; native talent. It sounds like the original engineers were known for their creative cleverness and ingenuity.
@MsMelChen The solution is to rally around open source.
That's the only way to compete with a superpower technology network effect if you are not a superpower yourself. And it's the only way to bring the rest of the world along on the same team as you.
Open source.
Sent another 64 ETH to the Animal Welfare Fund.
I encourage others to think and act more in support of our non-human cousins too! The extreme suffering we're imposing on them in the billions is not something we talk about often, but it continues to be one of the larger blights on humanity.
And I'm getting optimistic that this century we can finally end it. Farming practices are improving, synthetic alternatives are improving.
Also, in my recent experience, good old low-tech vegetarian and vegan food has improved massively worldwide over the last ten years; I encourage anyone who has tried it long before and given up to take second look; there are far more healthier and tastier options today than the "pasta and salad" you would often get ten years ago.
When everyone has access to the same AI tools, the same frameworks, the same tutorials … the only real differentiator is you.
Your taste, your perspective, how you think about the problem, etc.
You’re the variable.
Kydo argues EF is rejecting real world applications as it focuses on cypherpunk values
I don’t totally agree
Imo DeFi : decentralized finance, has the ability to push cypherpunk values onto the real world, making a centralized financial system less centralized
Imo the appointment of @ivangbi_ to defi in the EF is a sign of that
And @VitalikButerin talking positively about defi is a sign of that
Finance is how Ethereum wins, but through decentralizing finance, not being absorbed into centralized financial rails and institutions.
You have zero control over where you're born, yet billions of people in the world are shut out of accessing financial tools because of it.
Finally, this is changing with crypto. Getting access to sound money, loans, stocks, etc from your phone anywhere in the world is foundational to progress.
It might be the caffeine speaking, but I love you all ❤️
Happy Valentine's day you sexy mf'ers.
I'm writing this at a coffeeshop. Rain outside. A first date happening next to me, I'm hoping they make it.
I'm feeling happy & grateful for all of this, human civilization, life on Earth, a spinning rock in space. There are 100-400 billion other planets in our galaxy alone. And there are ~2 trillion galaxies in just the observable universe.
And somehow we have a chance to crack open the mysteries of the universe, to solve physics, biology, intelligence, to understand our own mind, to travel out toward the stars.
And at the same time, we often bicker about the stupidest shit. The whole thing is hilarious and beautiful.
All of this is a miracle ❤️
PS: It's definitely the caffeine speaking 🤣
we need to fix KYC/AML to zk-based and other non-intrusive solutions ASAP
it's insane to me the level of PII I've given to token sale platforms and portcos in the last 12 months
recently I had to scan my ID and give my fingerprints and an address etc. just to sign a stockholder proxy for one of my portcos
lawyers (and the app companies they advise) need to be more creative in verifying critical information using broader indicia rather than requiring bank-level KYC/AML for every little thing, it does not make sense for most fundraises etc. and it's seriously endangering people
