Congratulations to my @UCFMed FIRE mentee, McKenna, who expertly presented her findings at #SSSS24! Attendees’ enthusiasm for sexuality research and building community is palpable. This was my first time at SSSS, and I’m excited to return in the future!

Josseli died in Sept 2021. That’s after SB 8, the TX 6 week abortion ban, went into effect but before Roe was overturned. I appreciate ProPublica covering this bc it feels like many have already forgotten that Texans lived under a near-total ban for almost a year pre-Dobbs
Learning the implications of deadly Dobbs will be delayed years as a result of how slowly these committees work. This is reminiscent of the rape kit backlog.
Amber Thurman died following Georgia's abortion ban in 2022, less than 2 months after Dobbs. GA's maternal mortality committee did not review her case until July '24. Most states' boards have not reviewed deaths through '22, meaning we have limited data on Dobbs-related deaths.
New: At least two women in Georgia died after they couldn't access legal abortions and timely medical care in their state, ProPublica has found. This is one of their stories. https://t.co/ZZhqtEQdWB
20+ abortion funds published an open letter on how national organizations are causing harm by "invest[ing] millions in vague, multiyear electoral strategies"—at the same time they've cut funding for people who need abortions now. Absolutely worth a read:

In this case, they featured Martin Philbert, who had complaints made about him for 20+ years before he was fired and who, at the time of his firing, had influence over the Title IX office in his role as Provost.
I strongly recommend @NIH recut/reshoot informational videos so they no longer include serial sexual harassers. It doesn't inspire confidence to be reminded that my research could implicate a panel reviewer with the power to decide if I get funding.
