Why would you think that. People mail mail ballots when absentee or from the military all the time. Why would having fewer people participate create more accuracy?

Requiring everyone to vote in person on a random Tuesday is a ridiculous way to hold an election, it eliminates participation from people who can't attend a specific polling location for any number reasons -- work, family, health, traffic, who knows.

The infrastructure required to collect, open, and accurately tabulate mail in ballots is sizeable and it requires time to complete the count. Rushing things or cutting people out of the process arbitrarily won't make the count more accurate, and it won't create an accurate representation of the popular will either.

In California, mail-in ballots are valid as long as they are postmarked by Election Day and arrive to county election offices by June 9.

There is no reason why elections should have to be fast, or winners known by the end of the night on election day. What is important is that all votes are counted.
