Skeletal muscle is an endocrine organ.
Every training session releases hundreds of signaling molecules that influence inflammation, mitochondrial function, blood-brain barrier integrity, and neuroplasticity.
The biology supporting cognitive performance is not confined to your brain.
A significant portion originates in your muscle tissue
Strength training for 90-120 minutes per week is associated with up to a 30% lower risk of death from all causes, CVD, cancer, and neurologic disease.
That seems to be the upper limit - no additional benefit was observed above 120 minutes of strength training per week.
These benefits were independent of total aerobic activity, but combining strength training with ~5-15 hours of moderate-to-vigorous-intensity aerobic activity reduced all-cause mortality risk by 45%!
Clear message here is: "do both."
@camperry21@Jumpshot8@nyknicks Every great basketball player is a post player. See Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Oscar Robertson, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, etc.
@sam_gzstrength@wolfstrength Man… internet people have an excuse for everything… I tell people to full squat, then internet people tell me that tall people can’t, then I have to explain that I’m 6’5” but just not a sissy…
@wolfstrength@sam_gzstrength It’s an individual thing, that can change over time. If you need more leg drive, & it helps facilitate leg drive… heaven forbid you take advantage of basic biomechanics!
@sam_gzstrength I talked with Jill Mills once, yes, 2 time World’s Strongest Woman Jill Mills…
She preferred deadlifts in lifting shoes. Her deadlift was 562 lbs…
Success leaves clues.
@alexp_ssc No it won’t. That 35 year old myth has been disproven by research 25 years ago. That’s not how protein acts in the body. Can it be “converted” to carbs or fat? Sure. But even on higher protein diets, only a small amount is, “converted” even in a +calorie diet.
James Worthy on how the showtime Lakers would do in today’s game:
“The athlete today is a superior athlete. Okay. The approach, the stamina, the way they approach the game. But still for me I mean if I got to pick a point guard to start my team, I’m going Magic every time. And he could play today. He’s got pace. He’s got size. I’m not going to say we would dominate. A lot of people say, “Oh, we you know with Kareem and Magic we No, I don’t think we would dominate, but I think we could hold our own.”
